Mobil 1 5w40 ??

so .. I'm looking to either use 5w40 or 10w40 synthetic .. I look on the site and when I find the 5w40 it's saying "Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 for Diesel Engines" .. I just came off of 10w40 regular oil and I'm making the switch to synthetic but I want to stick with the 40 type oils .. I have a feeling the 5w40 will be less stressful on my engine at startup but I can't find it for Mobil 1 .. aside from startup, would 5w40 and 10w40 be essentially the same thing (i.e. operating temperature thickness being the same for either) ?? should I just used the 10w40 Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter or try to get the 5w40 Amsoil ?? thanks

I like the Amsoil 10w40 from what I'm reading .. I'm thinking I might avoid the Mobil 1 10w40 because all i can find is high mileage oil .. Amsoil looks a little bit pricier but 2 dollars a quart more every oil change isn't going to kill my pocket lol .. now I just need to figure out where to buy Amsoil locally and I'll probably be set here lol

I don't know how comfortable I feel ordering oil online/phone .. it just seems strange to me .. what would be the difference between the Amsoil 10w40 and the Mobil 1 10w40 ?? the only thing pushing me back right now is the Mobil 1 10w40 says it's a high mileage .. would that matter since I'm only at 40K miles ?? if that matters than I'm pretty much forced to get Amsoil online or go with that Rotella .. these are stressful times lol

Just use the 0w40 mobil1 as it gets great reviews for our engines esp if your FI.

AMSOIL is close to twice X the $ of Mobil 1 when you include the cost of shipping. If you have been using 10W/40 that's alright, but living on the right coast that probably wasn't the best choice due to your climate. Your G came with 5W/30 that's a much better choice all things considered. Mobil 1 is a good synthetic and their filters are top quality....

thanks for the reply .. yeah I know the climate isn't too great but I've read the synthetic 10w40 is good to climates as cold as 0 degrees F .. I don't think I remember a Winter in which North Jersey hit that low in a LONG time and if it IS that low I sure as hell won't be out or driving lol .. I'm putting the Mobil 1 synthetic in today and just going to see how that rolls .. I'd rather sacrifice a little performance with the thicker oil than have to hear noises and drive with the thinner .. my car just doesn't seem to run too well on the thin stuff .. I'll only have the G for another year or so anyways so before you know it the noisy pig will be someone elses problem .. thanks again for all the replies I appreciate the help and insight
