Thinking of selling the G

So I love the car. Its been a fun run with the G, but the nice car keeps having issues. Window motors ext. But the problems just keep adding up and are getting f***ing frustrating.

this is the second door lock to go out, Ive replaced the window motors and the window regulators, the head unit throws the code for the CD's and the cassette player is hit or miss to work. The seats I have been very disappointed with. The seat on the drivers side is broken down completely and the motor on the passenger seat is going out (the motor for the auto return is already out and going out on the driver side). The leather on the seats absolutely blows. Its soft and all but it doesn't hold up. I have multiple wear and tears where my body doesn't even touch the seats. All of that can be replaced with aftermarket stuff but still a pain in the a**. Plus aftermarket devalues the car if I plan to sell it later.

Then there is the mechanical issues. I had the unfortunate luck of the tranny having to be replaced (not cuz of my driving) that was a $5,000 repair. Now whenever I am at a stop and turn my wheels at the start in 1st gear there is a knocking noise, and it feels like the car is hesitating. (any ideas what that could be?)

Anyway I'm getting sick of the issues. So i'm looking at a new car. STI, EVO, SRT8 Jeep, really anything thats all-wheel drive. I'm also open to suggestions on what else to look at. Ive done research on google, but not finding really that much as far as reliability on both. any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks guys
Austin

Hi Austin...I've thought about selling my G several times but I just can't. It kinda sounds to me like you want another car and are looking for reasons to part with it. Just an observation. Anyway, do what you think is right...I've wanted another S2000 since the day I sold mine and I always consider trading the G for it but I know I'd be heartbroken. I've had the car for three years and I always fall back in love with it. If you don't feel the same way then it's time to buy one of the cars you listed.

BTW just from personal experience through ownership and selling...SRT8 Jeep gets HORRIFIC mpg and the STi will have much more problems than a G. Trust me, I owned one.

Matt

Thanks Matt for the input. Like I said I know nothing about STI's. MPG really isnt that big of a deal. I'm in college now so I'm not driving that much. But I need a big car for tailgating And I have fallen in and out of love with the G. I wanna keep it, but its just sucks.

Every car has their fair share of problems. I know BMW drivers who have massive problems (rear sub-frame etc...) along with weird and glitchy electronic problems. My buddy's Audi has had terrible luck with turbos, apparently a big problem on that motor. Sometimes, less is more. But then you want more and say f*ck it I'll keep the car

I think I might have oil consumption and can only imagine the hassle I am going to have to deal with at the ONLY dealership in town. Rattles on the highway today drove me nuts. I think my ears are bleeding because I just cranked the stereo. The seats aren't as comfortable as my new CRV seats, the clutch and tranny don't feel that great.

But what other 2 door coupes are out there I'd want even?! Audi S5, hands down - the interior is just so damn sexy! Too bad it's about 40K more than what I just paid for the G lol.

Between the cars you listed there, I'd go with the STI or the EVO.

Yeah if you want a new car do your research, but I think your best options are going to be the STI or evo.

The STI may have problems BUT it will cost A LOT LESS to repair the STI than the G35.

Since the guy above use to own a STI, can you list some of the problems instead of just saying the STI has problems?

Did you buy it used? Cuz I've owned an 06 STI for 3 years and never had one single problem. I bought mine brand new (7 miles on the odometer). Plus I was stationed in Germany when I had it. An that car was definatley pushed to the limits, unlike most STI's in the states. Mods were a 3inch catless TBE with a stage 2 Cobb map and Tein S springs.

^ from what i heard, 06-07 STIs are poorly made. i hear that the engine breaks down alot, its not tuned right, and i've had a subi moderator tell me that they arent even real subarus....something about the way their made, isnt like all the other subs.

The EVO is ur best option, it pretty much out performed the STI in all areas.
But then again, its basically a hit or miss with every car (i got a G, 6mt, and dont have a OC problem) and its all personal opinon on cars.

I think going from a G35 to an EVO or STi is foolish, yes the EVO and STi are fast but they look sooooooooooooo ugly, and super poor fit & Finnish.

That’s going from a high-end luxury sports car to a little boy’s matchbox car

Those cars are best suited for teenage boys and girls

Time to look at some big boy type cars

I've had many of the same problems as you.

2 window motors, 1 door lock motor, seat rails broke, CD/head unit failed, power buttons on seats failed, headlight replaced under warranty, axle clicking. I've owned the car 2 years, glad I'm under warranty still.

PM me if you want some input on the SRT8 Jeep. I love mine
