If so, details please!
Yes, replacing the crappy piston rings should fix the problem. It certainly will not be cheap. I'm guesstimating $4-5K to overhaul an engine but don't know much about the cost.

In your original post you said your car is in KMS, so you are still in warranty for powertrain, so as a previous poster said - what is the issue, your warranty for the engine oil consumption should still be valid...

Wow, i didn't clue in that most of you guys are american, and talking in miles. So if the powertrain warranty is the same in canada 6 years/ 112, 000 kms,(I thought it was 5 years) I'm all good, or am I? I've read about the replacement engines coming from Japan, some of them still burn oil. I guess I'll have to just try my luck. Calling my local dealer on monday.

Haha Phu you're getting confused. It's up to 100,000km so you're fine and still covered.

I was looking at the Cosworth piston and rings, they sound great. But then to have them installed would be a very costly procedure. I guess we'll see how long I feel like holding onto this thing.

BMW, MB, Inf, Lexus etc...they all seem to have their fair share of problems. At this price point, you'd expect much more but alas it ends up whatever is good looking and the fastest

I have to take my car in for the airbag fix still. I will bring a copy of the tsb. I'm not really sweating a hacked engine swap by the dealer though because I believe it's an engine design characteristic and not a defect otherwise we'd have near 100% success on the repairs.

Had mine replaced under warrenty got the v2 engine and still burn 1.5 to 2 quarts every 3500 miles. Out of warrenty now so not sure if gonna trade in or build a new block. It's almost paid off! No monthly payment sounds nice

That's right, a paid car is a free car! Just keep a case of good oil handy and top off that sucker lol. Most swaps still consume oil if not worse. I will update you guys when I get my oil analysis back.

I havent really looked under the g but i did a piston ring swap on my bmw without pulling the motor. As long as the oil pan can be removed then its totally possible. If so then all u should really need are rings and connecting rod bearings. While u have it apart maybe the timing chain water pump oil pump etc.......

It's actually gone? So many people seem to get a different engine block only to have the problem still exist!

I took my 05 G35 coupe back to the dealer for the OC test. A 1000 miles later, I took it back to the dealer only to discover I was a victim of the OC issue and they replaced my motor with a brand new. I love Infiniti!

I would say just watch the oil and when or if the engine goes it's not that bad to replace, my 03 6mt had oil consumption for years and I was told that was normal. Well one day engine knocked there was half a quart ( my bad I know )

Anyway bright side is I got a used 05 engine with low miles on it and it runs great all for under 2500 dollars. I'll keep this car forever if I can keep getting those deals.

Why wait till it goes bad if all that needs to be replaced are the rings. For 2500 u can add a lot of goodies to the motor.

You can buy a brand new short block for around 2-3k, so use high comp pistons, get a tune and you could easily be looking at 280-300whp.. It'll cost you more than a stock long block but hey you'll have a faster car with no oil consumption.
