Took my 05 g35 coupe to delearship today and they said my rack and pinion is leaking power steering fluid on driver side. They want $2,000 for parts and labor. Also they said it's not covered by any of the warranties. I thought this part was covered under powertrain warranty?

Has anyone replaced this part and if so, any good links for DIY or reputable websites for purchasing this part? Cheapest I saw was $275 shipped. Thanks.

$275 shipped???? What brand was that? Was it a re-manufactured unit or new?
You should be able to set aside an afternoon and get it done. Factor in new tie rods (preventative maintenance), and an alignment.

It was remanufactured part that came with 3 yr warranty off of ebay. I wanted to see if anyone else on here has purchased this item from reputable site. I searched on this site but only came across few thread but did not see any DIY.

Had that done on my Infiniti I 35. It was under warranty though. It took them close to an entire day........If it requires any special tools, I would leave it to the Pro's. Good luck

im a salvage rebuilder. i buy wrecked cars from insurance auctions and then fix them for resale. in this case, i bought this 05 g35 which sustained an interior burn and decided to use it as a parts car to fix other g35s with. here are some pics of it.

i used it to turn this:

into this:

right now the rack is still bolted in the car, however the engine and right suspension have been removed so it should be easy to remove. if in the future i buy a car and need to buy another rack, it would cost me 200 for a used one so thats what ill let it go for. youre welcome to pick it up in person. im going to the shop where the car is in the morning so ill try and remember to take some picks of it for you.
