I need a clutch already at 24k miles! WTF?
My clutch stared to feel harder and stiffer, so I took it to the dealership. The next day they called me and told me that since the clutch is a wearable part it would not be covered under the warranty. They told me that they could take apart my tranny to see if there was something abnormal with the clutch, but that they would charge me 475 bucks just to do that and if they noticed that the clutch was out, that I would have to pay for that. I told them that this was BS and that I dont beat on my car and the clutch wore out prematurely.
To make a long story short they wont cover it, I now have to buy a new clutch.
I'm thinking about going with an ACT clutch since I've heard they are pretty good and reliable. What do you think about them? or which one should I go with since I dont want to go OEM at all.?
Another question, What can I expect to get out of an aftermarket clutch? smoother shifting I hope?
Any do you know where I could pick up a clutch for a good price?
Thanks
Tony

clutch wear is so dependent on driver habit and driving styles, i can understand why it's not covered. i've known ppl who wore out their clutch in 6 months due to bad clutch habits. not to say that you're a bad driver, but just to say that i understand the dealers point of view.

tgalvez, being "harder to get into gears" doesn't sound like a clutch issue. More like gears wear, especially if only certain gears (or certain gear changing pairs, like 2>3 or 4>5 or 4>3) presents difficulty.
Aftermarket clutches are usually MORE difficult to use (i.e. less user friendly) as they're usually geared towards performance (i.e. grip, which translates in part to stiff springs, which dictates pedal effort). But I'm no expert in that market.
I do know, however, that it's next to impossible to get aftermarket SPRINGS that are stock height - they always lower the vehicle. Likewise, it's impossible to get a cool looking aftermarket exhaust that's QUIET. So I'd apply the same trend to aftermarket clutches.

24K seems really short. I remember one magazine had a long term test on the 350Z and they had to have their clutch replaced at a little less than 30K miles. 24K and 30K miles are completely unacceptable numbers. Clutches are supposed to last for 100K+ miles, I don't understand why our clutches are lasting for so damn short.

anyone know how much the stock clutch is?
when mine goes out, im getting the tilton street setup. with installation, it would cost about 1900 total.

Re: I need a clutch already at 24k miles! WTF?
This is so weird. I wonder if anyone else has had to replace their clutches this early? I have a friend with an E30 BMW 3-series (1988 model year) and he just had to replace the factory original clutch, which lasted 180,000 miles.
So as you can see, this is why I am so utterly bothered as to why our stock clutch has to be replaced so early. Clutches are mad expensive (with labor), it's not something you're supposed to do every 25K-30K miles !!!!!!!!!!!!
