Hello. Mustang to G35 owner!

Well, hello guys. I am soon to be a new g35 owner if things go well. After going through two engines and three transmissions in my mustang, I've called it quits with it's most recent blowup. Thing decided to blow while I was coasting into a turn after a mild drive home on the way to work. Very odd since it was reading all normal.

Anyways, after doing a little math and seeing how much money I was putting into my little 5.0, I decided that I could easily handle a car and insurance payment since it'd be around the same amount I'd been putting into the mustang except this time I would save time.

So, I'd like to say hello to everyone here. I'm a mustang owner and plan to use the G35 as a DD while the mustang will be turned into a full track toy with a turbo 331 in due time. For now though, the G will be nice. I've never had an almost new car with no problems so it'll be a nice change of pace.

Anyways, what should I look for when buying a used G? I'm going for an 03-07 G35 since I find the G37's ugly as sin. How is reliability on them? I mean, they couldn't possibly be as bad as my 5.0. Thing broke down every month religiously. Also, what should be my first mod if anything? While it may be a DD, it will be a performance orientated DD. Lol The mod bug took hold of me from the womb, I'm afraid.

Anyways, thanks in advance for your help and nice to meet everyone! Also sorry if this is possibly the wrong forum. I didn't notice an "introduce yourself" forum.

Congrats on pursuing the g35, domestics aren't really reliable. If your going to buy a 6MT g 05+, watch out for the oil consumption problem.

1. Rear axle click problem. Can be fixed, all you gotta do is remove the axle, clean it, and re-grease it. There is a TSB you can read.

2. Window motors / door lock actuators going out. Just replace them if they go out.

3. Oil consumption in the 6MT rev-up engines. 05+

4. Oil leaking into #6 spark plug. There is a TSB for this as well. Pull your plugs and make sure there aren't any signs of leakage. If there are, hopefully you car is still under warranty.

5. Radiator fan recall, check your VIN# with the dealership.

All I can think of at the moment.

Thank you. I'll bring all these up with the dealer. It's a small dealer so hopefully they don't know about this and they'll lower the price. ;0

And yes, the mustang was very unreliable but everyone loved the car. Even now I get calls from people asking where it's at. Boy was it fun. I doubt the G will even come close to being as fast as the 'stang nor handle as well ('stang is a road racing car) but that isn't the point.

How's the outlook on these motors? Pretty good? Is working on the car easy or are things a PITA to get to? I use all synthetic fluids in my cars and only the best parts so...

Lol both of mine went out years ago on the mustang. Not much of an inconvience once you look at the price and PITA factor of one of those things. lol

Also, if you're in the AZ area and selling a G, I'd like to know. Slime manual pickings that I'm finding on cars.com

Warranty is good because there's a lot of TSB's for these cars that deal with minor manufacturer defects, I believe all are covered under warranty. Since you want performance you'll probably want the rev-up engine (05+ manual transmission only). The 06-07 have upgraded interiors and some exterior differences. The sport package includes a VLSD differential and a slightly stiffer suspension, I forget what the premium package includes. As for mods, most of the bolt-ons will remain the same but it depends on which car you get (5AT or 6MT).

If these engines are well maintained, they will last a while. Some members on here are over 200K and there's a lot in the 150K range.

Ask about performance/exterior mods here:

Differences in the exteriors:

Welcome. Never had an issue with my mustang, but each car has its issues. Like most of the people stated the things that are wrong.

Mod bug will hit you, but its not like a 5.0 to reach high hp numbers your going to have to boost. For now a plenum spacer and an exhaust will hold you over. For about a month or so. Gl with both and theres two of us 331 guys(one has a blower) on here in case you have other questions.

Not at all true. I could say my G isn't reliable with the numerous electical problems I've had in 2 years.
