Help!!

So I got in my car this morning to go to work but the stick shift was stuck on parking I own a 5at 2003 I have to put the key in the key hole next to the stick shift in order to get it out of park everytime. Can some one please tell me whats going on thanks in advance

when you step on the brake pedal .. do you here a clicking sound which is the signal that allows you to shift?

has to be something with the brake pedal, if you put the key in the shift lock hole on the console can you get it out?

This happen to me in my nissan maxima and i had to do the same thing.

Check under the shifting mechanism for loose change or other small items that might have gotten stuck between the gears and baseplate. It also might be a failing solenoid.

or it could be a bad brake switch. check to see if you hear the click when you hit the brake. if not, you really need to see if the relay is gettin power to the shift lock solenoid. otherwise, id check the switch.
