Known defect with headunit! Left speakers cut out!

alright guys there have been a couple of posts on this subject but they have had a lot of questions and few answers....

heres the deal. Symptoms are left side speakers cutting out. I have heard left side only but maybe right could be same problem. My left door speakre went first and was followed by the rest of my left side. I just got really low sound from all of them. If i hit my brakes hard enough it comes back or if i hit the left side of the headunit really hard it'll cut back in.

the fix - my dealer said today when i was in there (they had gotten me a door speaker.... but i told them i thot it was the headunit) that this is a known problem and that i was right... they didnt even look at my car because i guess i seemed knowledgeable and they trusted me (im 17 so i found that a little odd lol)

basically what i would suggest to anyone with this problem is just to go into the dealer and tell them ur symptoms and what you think is the problem (headunit). They should overnight this (he said infiniti overnights a radio by default)... they told me to come back tommorow after 11am.... i was in there at about 2:30 today so i have to say that waiting 20 hours is a great feeling for a ordered part thats gonna be free.... especailly something that isnt important to the operation of the vehicle. I was very impressed with the service manager listening to my complaint and working with me and trusting my own knowlege of the car (something i DONT run into as a teenager)

teenager or no..your still paying for a car.. they should not be profiling anyone..

does it never happen.. nope.. glad your service manager treated you as a customer and not a teenager..

Re: Known defect with headunit! Left speakers cut

Only problem with this isnt a fix by just getting a new headunit. They're shipping the same headunit which has these problems so chances are it'll happen to you again. Someone posted earlier its just as easy as some connection getting loose in the back.

What I'm afraid of is that I have Infinity Perfect's going in there soon. Do they mind there are aftermarket speakers in the doors? Will they blame the headunit problem on that? I sure hope not.

Damn, that's the same thing that happened to me. Just the left-door tweeter would completely go out, and the in-door left speaker would be low in level. It would come back on only after hitting the brakes hard.

Did you get some kind of paperwork from Infiniti? If you did, let us know. I would like to have something to back up my case if I need to bring the car in to get this taken care of. BTW, why couldn't they choose anyone else besides Bose??

Isn't Clarion a German company? It's pretty dumb they would send the HU from Germany to Japan and then to US. The dealer was probably BSing. If I were to wait 2 months, I would make them give me a loaner for the duration. This kind of service is just absolutely unacceptable in this market segment.

why tell them anything at all regarding what you are playing in your car. just say fix it! they have their own cds to test with and don't need yours.

Re: Known defect with headunit! Left speakers cut out!

my left side speakers front and back goes out or becomes very low when i toss my car(suddent weight transfer) or go over some speed bumps. However when i listen to the radio everything is perfect.

I just know when i go to the dealership and complain about the HU problem they are going to tell me that i have to duplicate the problem for them to exchange a new HU. Lastly, all i have are burned CD's. The dealership can also put the blame on my burned CD's saying that the reason why my left speakers dont work is because im not using real CD's.

Any help?

I have the same exact problem with my 04 G35c! The service guy assigned to me would listen to the problem and try to blame it on my CDs. It was driving me crazy! I have the "LOADING" issue with my XM too, so when the XM cuts out, I flip to CD, and then the tweeter (and sometimes the kick panel speaker too!!!) is not working and I am stuck in rush hour traffic with a crappy *** stereo. It makes me so angry to know I paid so much for this car and get stuck with such a **** poor stereo. I finally got someone at the dealer to listen to me and I'm getting a new XM unit tomorrow, along with a new speaker. Even though I know the new speaker won't help, it's a start. The service rep originally told me that if the speaker didn't solve the problem, "There's nothing more he can do for me", which made me real mad. At least there are other people at this dealership willing to help me. They assured me they will continue to address the problem even if the speaker doesn't solve the audio problem.
