I purchased my 03 used and it has a very heavy clutch. I would compare it to other aftermarket clutches (spec stage 3 or 4) I've installed in other cars. Is this normal? Just wondering if anyone else experiences this or maybe I have something on the way out too.

Does your clutch make a lot of noise in neutral? it should be rattling noise. If so then it's probably time to go.

My clutch was so heavy it felt like i was lifting a truck clutch. It was a work out on my left leg.... the whole time I thought I had a performance clutch installed.. I had a mechanic tell me this too! but it turns out after this incident what I had was the original clutch assembly from factory. I think in time everything gets worn out and stiffens up. It could also be that the clutch fluid is old and/or malfunctioning cylinders. In any case, after the replacement my clutch feels GREAT! My clutch feels lighter and so much more sharper. No more noises from it whatsoever. I feel like my car is faster too!

If I were you I would first check your hydraulics (Master and Slave cylinders) and get your clutch fluid bled and put in fresh ones.

That is different then the problem I faced with my clutch. My clutch was consistently heavy. It had consistent catch point and the feel was great (at least I loved it). No slippage at all. It was just heavy.

And the clutch pin broke. And I found out everything that wasn't right.

If you are experiencing inconsistent catch point and inconsistent stiffness of your pedal I'd take it back to the dealer (if under warranty) and give him hell.

By the way 03 and 04 clutch feels a lot heavier than the 05+. But still I'd have a look.

thank you for the info! Coincidentally it does make noise at idle. I used to think the previous owner had installed an aftermarket clutch with lightweight flywheel due to the noise, but considering it is all stock otherwise I think you are correct its probably on its way out. Thanks!

let me know if you are doing any clutch work. I'm curious to know the result.
