Oil Consuption Update 10.21.04

Well I wish I had more to report but I dont. I took the car in yesterday and had them look at it. This is after I drove the 1000 miles that they wanted me to.

Word from them is that they needed to do another oil change and replace the filter and the oil change needed to be done at infiniti for the test. Why this wasn't done the frist time i dont know. So it's gonna take another thousand miles to get the ball rolling on this.

Also they said that the car was a quart low again but I checked the dipstick the other day and it looked like more than a quart. Makes no difference though since a quart in a thousand miles is just a bit much anyway.

So thats where it's at for another thousand I guess which sucks cause I just want to get this taken care of and over with!!

Re: Oil Consuption Update 10.21.04

They and you have up to 69,999 miles to decide what to do.
That's only another 70 quarts or less

1 quart per thousand is not excessive, "in Infiniti's mind" considering the engine design and power output........1/210th of fuel consumption........1 quart = 1136 cc or 1.1cc per mile
Guess that might be a lot compared to the old 3 liter designs which might use 1/6 th as much? Compared to RX7 rotoraries that good oil mileage.

"DaimlerChrysler is currently avoiding problems such as excessive Oil consumption that should be covered under warranty, which will [[COULD]] usually eventually lead to complete Engine failure. To avoid defective Engine warranty claims, Chrysler sends internal memo to dealers stating that acceptable Oil consumption for Chrysler Engines below 50,000 miles is one quart per 1,000 miles driven! Acceptable Oil consumption for Chrysler Engines with over 50,000 miles is one quart per 750 miles! "

Try to persuade the dealer [techs] that the usage could be [is] 1.1-1.25 quarts per 1,000 miles...........what ever is over the secret limit..........a $20-$50 might just get them to pour some out or misread the amount?..........all a matter of time the measuring bottle is filling up from the drips.

The regional guys can't be there to check as they don't know when your 1,000 miles will be up. Besides this is not a totally unknown problem. They just require a series of test to give the ok foe engine replacement [short block]. Try to get a long block replacement.

Q-

You and I seem to not see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, but:

Re: Oil Consuption Update 10.21.04

Yeah honestly I dont buy the whole 1 quart thing. I mean I checked it and it was LOW!! I wanted to add oil but obviosly that would defeat the purpose. I could get the oil out if I wanted but I dont think I need to go that route cause it's all comming out the back of the car. I saw a video from a recent meet I was at and the car is blatently blowing out black smoke at WOT. I know some dealers try to pawn a quart every thousand off as normal cause one tried that with me already.

I wont buy that though. This car never lost a drop for the first lets say 30k or so and now it's down 3 and sometimes 4 quarts. I dont think so. So basically I'm gonna drive the thousand and see what happens. It'll only take 3 weeks the way I drive. I'm not going to lay down on this one cause anything other than replacing the engine is going to cost me in the long run.

The following site:
http://www.hastingsmfg.com/Service%2...il_control.htm

is a good read to understand the exact factors involved and to scare the pants off anyone with your expert engineering knowledge. Simply written but covers the subject well.

Re: Oil Consuption Update 10.21.04

I dont care how many CC's per mile it uses. If you run the risk of oil starving your engine between normal ODI's ON A NEW CAR, I dont give a rats **** what they think, its not right. We arent driving MGs or Truimphs here.

If the G gets the rep of not being a daily driver because of oil and brakes, watch our resale drive. Not cool.

Holly sh*t Ducati guy has re-surfaced. Guess that camera phone came in handy Nick. Hey Blitz, maybe some poor guy without a grill finally found him.

76? the only reason they would charge you that much is if they didnt want you to come back. Most dealers, syn is 20 more on top of the regular 30-35 price.

Re: Oil Consuption Update 10.21.04

G-Force forgot to mention that he spotted the infamous Ducatiguys' G35 on a flatbed the other day and saw it at Competition Infiniti yesterday. I was there this morning dropping my car off for new brakes/rotors at 15K. Ducati's car is still in the lot with the dash board disasembled.
