Oil in #3 and 6 question

How do i find out if my car can be covered under this warranty? I looked on infiniti website and hell all they want you to do is give your info and they will get back to you? My car is a 2004 6mt with 62,500 miles on it. I'm not even sure if there is oil in them i just want it checked.

You can check it yourself, simply remove the coil packs and look into the tube. Otherwise the stealership will charge you a fee. If you are still under the powertrain warranty then it should be covered.

I believe it is covered up to 70k.

My #3 had oil. I found out myself and took pics for them. It was covered by my extended warranty.

Yeah, it's 70k. Check all the plugs for oil. It could be in any one of them.

have you noticed any oil consumption? like low oil or refilling every 1000 miles etc.

well i just did my first oil change on the car and the oil was black i mean nasty black, stupid *** guy before me just doesn't keep cars up like i do. But my oil level seems to be fine for right now but hell i only have 100 miles on this oil change. Ill have someone else crank my car for me to see if it smokes. But for the most part im just going to pull all the coil packs this weekend and see whats below. Is this hard to do? i had a 03 cts before this car and it was a pain in the royal *** to work on

Depending on the temperature outside it can be normal to see some whitish gray smoke. Look closely for a bluish tint to it. This would indicate it is burning oil. But I think the oil consumption issue and oil in the coil packs is a different issue isn't it? I guess you could have both.

Anyone know the approximate cost on the new valve covers? I'm just past the warranty period.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but oil present in the spark plugs (especially the rear 2 banks) is due to the gasket damage from running the car too lean (after certain bolt on parts are added but not tuned.)

How is that even possible? Are you saying because those cylinders create extra heat (running lean) and warp the spark plug tubes? In any event I heard it was a design flaw with the original valve cover design?

The gaskets leak because eventually things break down and fail, not because of bolt-ons or the A/F being off.

Head gaskets? I thought we were talking about the o-rings in the spark plug tubes on the valve covers? If so I've heard from several sources its due to a design flaw which lets the tubes warp? And head gaskets dont just 'break down and fail'. If you blow a head gasket something else is going on, warped head/block from too much heat, too much cylinder pressure, etc. Different issues though.

^Yeah, I don't know why I said head gasket... (fixed) I've never heard about the tubes warping though. I'm pretty sure you have to replace the whole valve cover.
