My painter never paints my bumper on the car, done right it shouldn't need to be blended in when the paint matches. They match my color to my gas door and maybe since it costs me $500 to have it painted has some bearing on quality and the job done right....but worth it!

The brand of paint probably isn't the issue, most likely it's either PPG, sherwin williams, or dupont. It's more about matching the color.

Almost no shop will blend to fenders/hood when painting a bumper... in fact, many bumpers come from the factory a slightly different shade than the rest of the car. The match you have is noticeable though, and you should have it re-done.

At our shop we use PPG. We look up the color code which will refer us to a bunch of alternate chips (basically just slightly different shades of the same color). Then we hold it up to the car and shine our sunlight gun on it so we can tell which match is closest. The sun gun is crucial, it allows you to see everything about the color, metallic flake, and flop.

Then the computer gives us a formula for the best match and we can spray it with confidence. Obviously we still have to blend if we're spraying a body panel or something, but for bumpers, this is the way to go!

We also have a color eye here called a Prophet, which after calibration, we can shine up to a clean flat area on a car, plug it into our computer, and it'll give us a formula for the color it read. It's frighteningly accurate. Technology rules!

The front left quarter panel on my red 06 6MT is a little different color from the door. I notice it, no one else does....but its there. Pretty sure this means the car was wrecked.

Someone backed into the doors of my 07 G35X. We have a good body shop and the guy there says it is almost impossible to perfectly match the paint because it changes with age. But, he matches well and blends even better. He also says take it home for a few days, look at it in all different light and angles and bring it back if we don't like it. But, it looks perfect to me. So the key, as everyone has mentioned, is a good shop that matches and blends well and stands by their work.

I'm not going to do anything about the coupe. It bugs me but the car has 77k miles on it. I'm not sure if the shop can do a blend on a preexisting mismatch.
