the srs system decides whether to deploy the airs bags or not based on collusion and speed. Keep in mind air bags are not a gentle pillow floating onto your face, its huge and violent explosion. Some times the air deploying can cause more damage then not deploying in low speed impacts.

SRS system figured you would receive less damage if the air bag did not deploy.

Back on 9/11 of '08 I actually crashed my 350 into a jersey barrier and bounced off and got tboned on the interstate. We were going about 55-65 and my main airbag didn't deply, just my side ones. So idk, maybe it's just a Nissan thing?? I've got a few pics in my album if you'd like to check it out, damn government computers wont let me mess with pics...

 

Sounds like you didnt hit hard enough, next time hit the front of the car with a baseball bat for good measure

Airbag sensors are not designed to set the bag off once they are crushed... Its a deceleration speed that deploys them... The impact has to be hard enough for the metal ball or whatever it is to come loose from the back of the sensor and hit the front completing the electrical circuit. Almost like its a ball bearing stuck to a magnet and it takes x amount of force for out power the rear magnet and let the ball slam forward to the front magnet connecting the electronic contacts and deploying the bag...

I could be slightly off on that but thats what another member her explained once, and also an old time body shop guy told me...

 

OK guys...so I finally got my estimate in....they are going to fix it....i am completely pissed.

Basically my 2005 G35 6 Speed (all options) 86,000miles is going to be repaired with a bill from the body shop at 8,525.89. Im not for sure how much these g35's go for but id say TOPS 16K...which means im at 53%....im just shocked.

also my rear bumper has some damage....Nothing had collided with me but somehow between me getting into Ambulance and it being parked out at the repair shop, it was damaged...i told the repair shop to get that fixed as well since it wasnt on the estimate. So figure that price, please price to take to Infiniti and get the airbag system checked out.

 

if you were not going fast enough for the air bags to deploy... then there is nothing wrong with them... Are you going to file a law suit against INfiniti cause your bag didn't blow?

You know you can go after the other person's insurance (provided they were found at fault) and get compensated for a diminished value of your car due to the accident.

 

OH sorry...did i not tell you guys, it was a mexican with no insurance who pulled out in front of me!

i have to file with my own full coverage/UIM....and hire an attorney to sort everything out..plus the mexican gets off with a 200 fine.

u should be lucky ur air bag is not deploy, or else you pay more to fix..

 

Air Bag deployment would had put it sooooo close to being totaled... It would suck if it ended up being like $100 away, and you were still stuck with the car.

 

some of you guys arent reading....its an 2005. and I have full coverage and Uninsured Motorist. Id rather the airbag go off and total the car than have a car thats frame is tweaked which they will have to straighten.

 

Do a front end conversion..Maybe JDM TYPE R?

 

Oh, I read your post... But how bad would it had sucked if the air bags DID go off and your damage was still just a few hundred below it being totaled... I would rather had $8k damage and a fixed car than $14k damage and a fixed car....
