Clicking noise coming from engine
Clicking noise coming from engine
I have an 04 g35 coupe with 80,000 miles on it. Its last oil change was 3200 miles ago. Last night I moved it from one side of my driveway to the other and it started up and ran normal. Today, I got in and the engine didn't want to turn over, then when it finally did, the rpms kept dropping as if the car was going to die and there was a steady clicking noise coming from under the hood. As I pushed the gas (to raise the rpms) the clicking speed increased and got louder. Any ideas as to what this would be? Common problem? Estimated cost? Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Lol dude.. This same exact f*cking thing happened to me the other day. I mean the EXACT same thing. It's your coilpacks. Easy fix. All you need is a 10mm socket and a pair of pliers. If your car is throwing a code, take it to autozone to figure out which cylinder is misfiring. That will be the coilpack you need to replace. The price ranges from $100 at Autozone, $130 at Nissan, and $160 at Infiniti. You can probably get them online for much cheaper. If you need any more help or have any specific questions shoot me a PM. Good luck!

i had the ssame thing......thought it was a topside oil problem....flushed engine......changed oil and went away.......but i still feel it mighta been a coil problem and not the oil. I'll have to see if it happens again. I'm meticulous with oil changes and always had synth at 3k miles....hard to believe theres any sludge at 100k in my engine......will update if it comes up again
UPDATE* Flushed engine with CASTLE engine flush. (pour in flush - let idle for 15 minutes - drain out old oil and replace with new oil and filter) Also went to 0-30 German Castrol and the problem is gone! Let car sit for one week, went to start, and no problems, no rattle, no what sounded like a lifter needing to pump up. Will monitor for future problems, but the engine is running 100% smoother. Must of had somthing built up in it. Oil came out dirty, but not all that black. I've flushed cars before that came out with black goops and gobs. One infinity tech commented that with the tight tolerances of our VQ's that any slight sludge will cause problems, whereas most american engine tolerances are greater (i.e. oil galley circum. rod bearing tolerances , etc) and aren't as finicky to bad oil. Again i'll keep posted if the problem returns.
Happened to me this weekend too, but I just figured it was a flooding issue. I was getting some good grey-black smoke out of the tail pipes. After a few failed start attempts where it would just rev up and die and then ultimately just crank and no start. I tried starting it with the pedal down and it managed to start albeit on the rough side. I just kept giving it gas and revving it until it got friendly and normal.
This happened after the same situation, turned it on to move it and then didnt try to restart it until the next day.
