How loud is the "howling" of a bad wheel bearing?

So, I have never experienced a bad bearing in any car I've ever owned. I've recently noticed this almost "white noise" coming from the rear of my car. It's almost sounds like how people describe a bad bearing in the G (meaning it kinda sounds like a "wind tunnel"). I feel like the sound has a bit of tremelo to it too, so to me it sounds like I have some pigeons cooing in my trunk.

However, the sound is fairly faint and my tires are getting close to being replaced. It's so faint in fact, that if I stop paying attention to it I can forget it's there. It could be tire noise, but Im just wondering how loud a busted bearing is..?

Yeah, my tread is pretty close to being done. They aren't bald tho; maybe it's just the tires.

I wouldn't say that's the bearing. One of my fronts went out last year and all I heard was this faint, yet annoying ticking every time I turned the wheel. Your case sounds more like a tire issue

Swap the tires side to side or run the spare there. Don't just throw parts at it. Make sure it is the issue.

I'm not running the tires backward. I've made that mistake in my younger days. Besides, I already have the two tires sitting in my house, cuz I bought 4 but only the front 2 were urgent (shocks were blown, so heavy cupping).

Probably your tires. I heard a faint whistling or scraping noise as well from my passenger rear. Brought it to a mechanic also, because I thought I was going crazy and it ended up being the tires pretty much. I had a sticking caliper also, but it was the tires causing the most problem.

I had bearing go out on the same tire as well about two yaers ago and it wasn't faint at all!

Yeah, I assumed it would be highly obvious if it were a bearing, but like I said, I have never actually heard it. Changing the tires tomorrow tho..or maybe today if I stop being lazy..

You aren't driving fast! Just swap em quick and take off slow to 35mph. It will be obvious.

Nah, I'm good. You should never run a radial tire backward from its originally installed direction. Some people claim this is a thing from the past when tires were made differently, but I have personal experience as to why this should never be done.

True, but you could find another wheel and run the spare and see if your issue persists. .
