Need tips on what to look for
Need tips on what to look for
I'm about to purchase a G35 (just sold my 350z and converted!). The potential one I'm looking at has 85k miles and is auto. I think the year is 03 (possibly 04)
Anything out of the ordinary I should be concerned about?
Thanks

Buying a high mileage G35 I'd want a CARFAX and service records along with having a qualified mechanic check it out top to bottom. I'd never recommend buying anything with that kinda mileage that wasn't taken care of, garage kept etc!

I would say check the packages too. I.e. base, track package, sport package.
This defines different rims, suspension, and LSD.
Navigation? Interior color to match your taste?
04 auto shouldn't have o/c, so you should be good on that.

What is the o/c? It has navigation, bose system and the silver/titanium trim. I have no idea what package it is other than those details...
O/C is oil consumption, and I have an 04 auto coupe with that many miles soooo, here goes.
Look for:
Speaker cutout on various channels(left/right/front/rear) using CD input.
Power window motors (when were they replaced)
Check tire wear pattern, brakes, and rear suspension endlinks. The endlinks make a mild (for lack of a better word) clunking noise that almost sounds like the suspension bottoming out if they need changing
Check engine spark plugs for oil around the plugs and accelerated electrode wear.
Transmission Fluid Color and transmission fluid change interval
Coolant Flush interval
Differential Fluid change interval
Brake fluid should have been changed by now
This car should need shocks soon.
I'll update as I think of more

Reaaallllyyy appreciate it.
I would open the hood, also check this on the trunk lid, check the bolts if they have even been cracked, check the bolts on the fenders to see if they've been cracked, open the doors look under the weather stripping For overspray, look under the rubber seals on the wind sheild and rear windows. After you know the car is not a wreck, I would drive it to a mechanic and get a pressure test on the whole system

I just bought a high mileage 06. 75k. The thing is, if you are going to buy a car that old and with that sort of mileage 1) you can't expect it to be like new but 2) you shouldn't be paying much for it. So get it for cheap and expect to have some issue to deal with.
Also, the CarFax is a good idea but it is not comprehensive and does not mean the car has never been wrecked. mine has clearly been wrecked and you can tell because one quarter panel is a little different color than the rest of the car and there are other inconsistencies in the paint.
I think the main thing you need to do is take it to a mechanic to rule out major engine, transmission, brake and suspension problems. Then, you make sure the AC, speakers, windows, etc work. If all that checks out, go for it.
When you get it, take the plunge and change the oil and maybe the transmission fluid. (I have not done that yet.)
Its going to have squeaks, rattles and little quirks but that is consistent with a car that old and, sadly, with most all later Infinitis up to about 08, in my opinion.
But again, it should be cheap, right?

Take a look at the pedals.. That should give you an idea if the car has been driven a lot on the HWY or on the street. If the pedals are not worn out then it means the car was driven on the hwy and engines take less damage there. Good luck
