Ok so this kid wants to race me with a 2001 330ci 5 Spd. i wanna know what u guys think the outcome will be i dont know if his car is modded in any way or not but mine isnt. Lets say stock vs. stock you think i can take him.?? im in a 5AT though..any thoughts?????

that even a question? 330CI vs G35... 235 hp vs 280 hp, similar weight... do your homework...

go look at their times at tracks... go race one, answer is simple.

 

Found this nice website, it says that our cars do 14.28 and the 330ci does 14.50.
Not sure how accurate these time are but you should have the edge.

It's definitely a drivers race. The BMW is rated kind of low in the horsepower arena. Also, they have fewer paracitic losses and their in-line 6 is a good competitor for the VQ35DE. Now, having said that, the "odds" are slightly in your favor so all other things being equal (and that's a huge assumption) you will win.

i've driven a 03 330ci manual. i don't care if its only rated at 235hp - it pulls HARD just like our Gs. You can't focus on just horsepower either. You have to consider torque - and while I'm writting this without actually looking up the numbers, I'm betting the inline 6 has more torque than our V6. Also one must consider how the car is geared.

It aslmost sounds like the race is for $$? If that is the case, then pass. There are too many factors. If its just for fun, then who cares, just do it. But according to the posting rules I'm suggesting you do this at the local track.

Just to clear the air, that 01 330ci is rated at 225HP and 214 lb ft of torque. I have an 01 330i auto, but have driven many a 5 speed 330's! A manaul 330 is a pretty quick car, a 6mt is faster though! BMW's are really under rated in the HP department, I have always liked that about them! I have not driven an auto G, I know my 6mt would take a 5 speed 330, and I would think your auto could too, assuming you get a good launch! Be sure to take off VDC! Just race him and find out? Let us know the results?

You should be able to easily beat him. Like already mentioned, make sure the VDC is off.

The only 330 match for the G35C is the one with the new sport package (whatever its called) which adds some more HP. But that wasn't available in '01, so you don't have to worry about that.

The best a regular 330 can do 0-60 is in the low to mid 6 second range, versus high 5 second range for an auto G35C.

hay this is derek how you doing. well you wanted to know if u can smoke a 330ci (auto) well my causen has a 330ci (manual) and i have a G35C (auto) and we raced at the track and i won him all 3 times. very close race but you will KILL the damn bimmer (germans cant make cars for shet)( or price them).

What both of them said, is exactly right! People think these magazine times are so true, race one ont he street and you will be in for a surprise on how close they could keep it up until about 100 or so, i drove my friends 330ci alot, and it felt so slow but whenever he races me its damm quick, i manage to keep a car up to 2 on him up until some high speeds (120) he has a 5spd and chip also but up to about 70 he is almost by my side with prob half a car on him or a lil more or less depending on his launch, he also beat my friend in his 6spd coupe that he just got, not the greatest driver but still LOL, it shouldnt have happened liek that but my friend didnt launch . Race and see how it goes, good luck!

Despite what some here insist, it's a close race.

The regular 330 manual w/ an excellent driver can beat or match the G35 auto. The 330 ZHP is just about dead even w/ the G35c 6-sp.

The 330's 225 hp figure is somewhat misleading, it's more powerful than that.

and keep in mind that bmw has insane 1st and 2nd gearing to get maximum 0-60times... and fastest 330ci 5MT traps at 96.6(http://www.car-videos.com/performanc...?id1=184&id2=0)
while AT g traps at 98mph(http://www.edmunds.com/new/2004/infi...alpage=page001)...
even from a dig, 330ci got 5.7sec while AT g got 6.2 with 17s without brake tq... do the math for with PS tires and tq braking...
