Ok so if you guys were following, my 2005 g35 coupe was in a wreck last month...
the noninsured motorist pulled out from a parking lot infront of me and i hit her somewhere between 30-40MPH. Impact was my driver side front and her driver side tire. Car was in 4th gear and I slammed on the brakes...car instantly stalled then slammed into her.
it was about $9000 in body work. THEN i get a call from body shop saying they cant roll the car. So now My insurance is skeptical of my car eventhough i was driving it!!! and now it isnt driveable!!
my mechanic who is a family friend of mine(40years in the biz), knows my car and how well i take care of it as he does all the work...But he doesnt normally get wrecked vehicles in to repair.
So the symptoms: basically when you push the pedal in, at the bottom of the push, the slave internals get blown. You can bump start the car(thanks to the ****ty redneck towtruck guy who put it in gear and without depressing clutch, bump started my car in 1st to move it into the repair shop!!) and it seems to "run" fine but basically something has to be messed up in the transmission or in the bell housing...
something it jacked with the hydraulics. My mechanic believes the spline fingers on the clutch are gone.
What do you guys think could have happened?? and keep in mind i am being 100% honest that the car ran perfect before hand.

Not a professional thought, but I would be leaning towards the clutch, slave cylinder, throw out bearing area. If the clutch came apart for the impact it might have something jammed up.
So you are saying the impact caused the clutch came apart from impact? The problem is telling the INS company how exactly a collision did all this...but to my defensive it was running prior to the wreck
Ok guys. Need help. The trans was dropped today and the throwing bearing was smushed and broke causing the splines to break/damage. Now the auto shop is having a toug time relating it all. They know it was running so something from the 40 to 0 and impact caused the damage to the bearing. Basically they are saying the bearing slapped against the cpressure plate and damaged itself then damaged everything else. Whatsoever you guys think?

I don't think you should have to bother with trying to justify how this could have happened from the accident. Originally Posted by caper

All you have to do is say. "It wasn't like this prior to the accident. I don't know how this type of damage could have occured as a result of the accident. I don't understand how cars are designed to handle specific types of impact, nor am I intimately familiar with the inner workings of the transmission, clutch, and engine. I only know that this was not an issue prior to the accident." I'd verify, but I would venture to say that they are required to repair the car to it's pre-accident condition, or up to the limits of the policy. "It wasn't like this prior to the accident." Regardless of who caused the damage... Impact, loading onto tow truck, towing, etc.
Don't let them try to get you on the defensive. IMHO THEY have the burden of proof if they think you are lying.
I have recently dealt with damage from an accident that the insurance company didn't want to approve repair. They didn't think it was as a result of the accident, asked me to explain how that damage was as a result of the accident. I simply said, "I have no idea, but It wasn't like this prior to the accident". It got repaired.
let me add that "I" as the owner am not writing this to the insurance person. It is the mechanic shop that has been requested by the Insurance adjust to provide a statement that the damage was caused by the collision. The mechanic shop is my mechanic I use for all my cars so they know the car was in mint condition before the accident and wanted to run eveyrthing by me. So in otherwords, they told me the throw out bearing looks damaged and basically looks like it slapped against the pressure plate or vice versa and once that was damaged when they tried to start the vehicle or more it around, it caused more spline damage and seized everything up.
Now this is the first time they have seen something like this caused from a collision....so what advice would you give my mechanic to link the damage and collision together?

Understood. I don't have an answer. The mechanic is being asked for their professional opinion whether they think it was caused by the accident, and give best guesses as to how. I would say that with $9000 in damage quite a few things were removed/replaced, and/or jostled during the accident.
Also, perhaps the towing company caused the issue by the way they loaded/unloaded or towed the car. If they have seen this happen as a result of an improper tow, that would probably satisfy the insurance company. As long as they know who to go after for their money...
Perhaps have them call a friend at Infiniti for ideas.

exactly...Yes, the tow truck who I called my ins company to have someone they know send the car to the shop actually bump started it in 1st infront of my mechanic and limped it inside the shop.
the problem with telling the adjuster that is that will just add length to the wait for the approval on parts...

Sounds like you'll need the parts anyway. I'd have them order them while the ins. co. gets it approved.Originally Posted by caper

is the bell housing cracked? the bump starting wouldn't smush the breaking its not a forward movement its rotational but 9k in damage from someone pullin out in front of you i would guess the engine was probably hit maybe shashing it and the trani together harder crushing it but you should see problems with the bell housing if that were the case. also look at the shift fork maybe something hit it in the accident
