Tranny just went on my G35. Dealer quoted 4.2k for a remanufactured one...

Does anyone know where I could source a used AT Transmission for an 04 coupe?

Canada preferred, but willing to ship from USA if I have too.

Any leads appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Wow, 4.2K is retarded. That doesn't even include labor huh. Check every Craigslist city around you. You can order one from ebay (from a reputable seller) and have it shipped for waaay less.

I vote have someone else besides the dealer install it.

Yeah I know..

Labor is $800.00. So in total with taxes I'm looking at $5650.00

I found a used transmission on autopartsfair.com and made arrangements to have it shipped to a UPS store 40 mins from me in NY. and I'll just bring it over the border myself.

Can anyone vouch for that site?

The only thing I'm not sure of, is which tranny I need... Options are:

Automatic Transmission thru 9/03 2 door (Coupe)

Or

Automatic Transmission from 10/03 RWD 2 door (Coupe)

My car is definitely RWD. But I'm not sure what the other two numbers mean.

^^^ They are the production dates and you can find it on the sticker on the door frame.

Check ebay. I saw some used ones for under $1000 and even some for under $700 with warranty.

What do you mean too bad? You could use any tranny from 03-04 so those 2 trannys that you found would work for your car. Unless you meant you left it there so that you could be ripped off.

Knowing the Infiniti stealerships don't be too suprised if they charge you a storage fee since you're not getting the trans from them.... Did you look into having your trans rebuilt from a regular transmission shop? You can never be sure when buying a used trans, having yours rebuilt it should be as good or better than new!

Yeah, I'm going to check out some shops on Monday.

Problem is, I gotta shift it in neutral for it to even start, and it wont shift out of first gear... So driving around to transmission shops isn't exactly easy.

I'm gonna try a place that's supposedly good with Nissan/Infiniti on Monday.

As for the "stealership" storage fee, the check will be in the mail

where in canada are you located? I'm in Seattle WA and have an 04 automatic tranny with around 35K miles on it, no problems when we took it off. Shoot me a PM if you're interested

I can pick it up if you ship it to the UPS Store in Ogdensburg NY (less shipping cost)...

PMing you now.

If I were you I would get a second opinion (non-dealer) before investing in a used tranny. The are a number of sensors involved in gear changes that are outside the transmission. The fact that you can't start the car in park and have to start in neutral to me is an indication that the car doesn't know the position of the shift lever. Have you tried putting it in manumatic and shifting it manually. Dealers are notorious for just throwing new parts on rather than spending time diagnosing problems. More $$$ less time.
