New tires needed~

Bought some hankook v12 exactly one year ago and they are already downed to 3mm.

Do you guys have any other better suggestion that can last longer than a year? (please don't suggest some $500 a piece tirea heh)

Thanks a lot

All around wear?
Be aware of the stock negative camber that our cars have..

I just purchased a set of brand new 19" Michelin Pilot A/S Pluses for 500 (locally) which obviously was a superb deal.

I originally had the Hankook S1s, which I bough in the spring of last year. By that very winter , the tires were already toast. I doubt I'd ever get those tires again. Didn't grip at all unless very warmed up. Hopefully these Michelin's do allright.

Try Falken or possibly Kumho. Continentals are decent too.

I can tell you this... Stay clear of those off brand tires and cheap tires in general. I had some Avon tires on my 04 Coupe.... They had more road noise than my 31" BFG mud tires on my Tacoma.... No joke... I thought the Wheel bearings were ready to fall out, but it was just the tires.

I have been real happy with the Yokohama Advan's. I don't know what they run new, I got my used.

My stock tires were pretty well done at about 11K, made them last 22k.
Got Toyos to replace them, absolute worst garbage I've ever bought.
I now have about 6K on my Falken 452's. They look absolutley brand new. The grip is the absolute best I've ever experienced. I wouldn't mind getting Michelin PS2's next BUTT, at $1,500.00 a pop, I think I'll stick with Falken's for now.

Do you hear road noise with Falken when you car is runing and you step off the gas and you let it roll till it stops ? I have 20" rims with falken and i can hear road noise when i do that on my car just want to know if its normal for this tires to do that?

summer tires will wear faster, its just the nature of the beast of having softer compound tires. If you want miles on tires just get a harder compound all season tire. You can go with the all season bfg tires...i think the tread rating is like 500 on them.

Buying tires is a science, you need to know what those ratings on your sidewalls really mean. Wear ratings, anything below 200 won't last a year under normal driving conditions. A tire with 500 will last a long time but you won't have the traction and control needed in our rides and then there's the noise. Michelin PS2s are expensive so you need to compromise with a A/S and a wear rating a little less than 300. They should be quiet, last 30K miles and give you the traction needed. TireRack is a good place to check for prices and buy tires if the tire store in your area won't match their prices....don't forget the cost of mounting. Good Luck!

I'm still real happy with the Yokohama S-Drives. They've held up well at 15k miles. Not the ultimate traction tire but not too expensive either.

6MT Coupe
Very pleased with my Sumitomo HTRZ III's. IIRC, little over 20K mi on them with lots of inside tread left. No complaints on grip/performance either. They do ride a little harsher than my past Dunlop Sport Maxx though, but compare the cost. I and my wallet don't mind the slightly harsher ride at all lol. There's better gripping tires out there, but wear rating is much lower = less life.

My 06 6MT came with Kumho ultra high performance summer tires. I have no idea how many miles they have on them but they still look good. A little loud in front. They ride a bit rough but they are 19"s so there isn't much sidewall. I've put about 4k miles on the car and no appreciable wear. They are very sticky and the handling is great. Very impressive to me.

But, they truly stink on snow. I live down south but we got 7 inches of snow and ice last week. My X was simply perfect in the snow even on the crappy OEM Goodyears. The coupe wouldn't go anywhere. This is not a knock on the Kumhos.....they are not made for snow and they list snow performance as '0'. I'm just saying, on the few times it snows around here the coupe stays put.

Anyway, I'd recommend them and may put them on again when these wear out.

Edit: The treadwear rating is '320' so these are a bit 'hard' for summer only high performance tires....but I've heard, and my experience confirms that they will last longer than typical summer ultra high performance tires.

Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS they are pricy but well worth the money. Its designed to provide year-round driving flexibility by offering predictable handling, traction and control on dry and wet roads, as well as in light snow.

........you sound just like a commercial! Glad you like your Stones, I'll stick with my Michelins since I don't leave the garage when it's snowing!
