More Ridiculousness....Advice Please!

Ok,

Here we go again. First it was the terrible windows (faulty motors), then the infamous gas door problems, and now the "Check Engine Soon" for me....this is getting to be more than I can handle. The car litterally turned TWO Years old this week....shouldn't a $39,000 car hold up better than this?! I thought maybe it was a sensor, but now the car's dash lights are ALL lit up. I had no warning....the car was running flawless otherwise. This is crazy!! So basically I am having it towed 80+ miles to my local dealership for them to determine what the $#%^ is up with the car.

My question is should I let these three issues eat at me and just ditch the car for something else, or should I hang in and keep the faith. I really love the car and I have no complaints about the drivabilty or style of the vehicle....I just don't won't dumb problems like these to keep occuring. Now I do realize that I bought a 1st Production/1st Shipment car back in 2002, but should it really have this level of technical issues? Has anyone heard of the new Acura TLs/RLs or New Covette's having these types of issues? Heck, better yet, are there other semi-expensive cars that show the same kind of problems?

I really want to continue to support Infiniti, but as time goes by, it is getting harder to view them as "reliable". Please let me know what you think....I appreciate everybody's time!

P.S. I just got made fun of at work b/c my Coupe with 20130 miles had to be towed.... they drive a POS with 100,000+ and never had a problem...or so they say.

haha...you think you have problems...go check out the Acura boards. They complain waaaay more than this board.

Three problems isn't too bad. I say stick with it and see what happens.

EZZ,

Thanks for the quick response. I guess you are right....maybe it will get better.

So Acura's aren't that reliable...one of my friends constantly throws it in my face that Acura hardly has any issues....hmmm. So are the new TLs/RLs having issues too? Thanks....this is making me feel better ;-)

Re: More Ridiculousness....Advice Please!

ALL new cars have issues. Too many things in them that can go wrong, so naturally some things do. And I'm not talking about single instances, I'm talking about common problems amongst owners. The wife's Honda minivan ('02) has had a couple of TSBs and a slight issue with a first-run 5-speed auto tranny. It's normal to have SOME issues.

I do have to say I haven't had any of the typical PITA little (or big) problems come up that I've experienced with my past cars. I'd say there is something to the Honda Quality perception, but it's not realistic to expect ZERO problems.

Stick witht the G unless you have a wealth of problems. It's really a matter of expecting more from the price and marque, as you wouldn't be shocked to find a 2-yr. old used car with similar problems.

Think about how PO'd the guys are that have spent over 100K (or 2 or 3 times that) on their Porsche, Ferarri, Lamborghini, Aston, Bentley, etc. Even Ghandi's mother admitted her son had shortfalls.

'05 IP(or ?) 6MT... ...Never too soon to think about modifications!!

Three problems is nothing compared to what new TL owners are dealing with. It's normal for 1st production cars to have some problems, and in your case they are not very serious. I have an '04 and (knock on wood) have had a great experience so far... I really love my car Just go out for a nice long drive when you get it back and enjoy your car..

Thanks for the encouraging feedback..... just got a call from the service guy and he said that my "Throttle Body" was going to have to be replaced.....said the sensor did go bad in it, but they plan to replace the whole thing, so it "doesn't happen again".

Anybody know what the "Throttle Body" is and/or its significance. Just curious... thanks!

The throttle body connects the stock air intake tube (or the z-tube) to the plenum. I'm not familar with a sensor related to it, other than the MAF sensor which is located before the throttle body and is attached to the air intake tube.

Well now that I think about it, did I remove an electrical plug from the bottom of the throttle body when I removed it and installed the plenum? Anyone?

Isn't the throttle body controlled by the computer since we have drive-by-wire?

Re: More Ridiculousness....Advice Please!

my g coupe just turned 2 as well. i hope my check engine light doesnt go on. yes these problems are annoying, but i think they are hit and miss.

my previous car was a 99 corvette, which i got at the end of 98. they were still very dificult to get since the chevy plants were on strike at the time. everyone says american cars are junk, but i never had any problems with the car.

on the other hand, my brother bought a $120,000 mercedes in 2001, and he had to get the entire suspension changed twice, and he only had like 8000 miles on it. so it depends on your luck.

As much as warranty issues do suck, consider what the issues are as well. Thinking ahead, once the warranty is done, I'd rather pay for a window motor than a new engine for the car. Regardless of the car, nothing out there has 100% reliability. Wanna have something to complain about? Buy a Domestic. My parents have GM products and both have had major issues. Particularly with the tranny(both needed rebuilding). In both cases no check engine light came on and the problems were very apparent. However, with my last 2 Nissans, the only issues I had were engine wiring harness issues and both triggered a MIL light. Both were cheap fixes. If you have a check engine light, and the motor runs fine otherwise, then it's likely a faulty or worn sensor. Typically, these are relatively cheap and easy fixes. Run into a motor or tranny failure and I'll bet these issues will seem rather minor in comparison.
