2004 G35 Coupe 6MT Drivetrain Noise

I have been experiencing some drivetrain noises on my 2004 G35 Coupe 6MT and I was going to see if you guys could help.

1. With car in first gear and taking off slowly around 2-3000 RPM I hear a "spring" noise. Sounds like a spring is coming uncoiled or something. (Only when starting car for first time and taking off in 1st gear.)

2. at about 3-4000 RPM in every gear on a cold start I hear a very loud whining/chirping noise that literally sounds like a bird call or something.

3. If in 1st gear and slowly going to a stop and disengaging the clutch I get a rattle/chatter and car lurches forward...

4. The car lurches forward and back when let the RPMs slowly fall to 2000-1000 RPM...

5. When in 3rd gear and I accelerate hard say 40-60MPH I hear a rattle/chatter that comes and goes very quickly.

All of the above issues have been pinpointed to the drivetrain/clutch.

If I disengage the clutch and take the car out of gear #2 noise goes away. If I disengage the clutch and rev the engine (in gear or out of gear) the rattle/chatter that is heard on hard acceleration is no existant.

I am curious if my throwout bearing is going bad or if it could possibly be the clutch as well. I was driving home from work the other day going 60 MPH on the highway and it smelt like my clutch was burning. Keep in mind that there is no loss of performance or speed. Just these annoying noises that wont go away. I am probably going to take it to Grubbs on Friday and see what the F is up. If they tell me nothing is wrong they are crazy! Thanks for the help.

some of those sounds are related to the flywheel.
1. i cant relate that to anything
2. i cant relate anything to this one either
3. sounds pretty normal. probably flywheel chatter
4. in 1st gear this is normal
5. another miss for me

do you have the stock clutch/flywheel combo

and to test if your clutch is slipping, drive your car in 6th gear around 3000rpms (probably around 78-80mph) and stomp on the gas until around 4000rpms. if you see your rpms suddenly jump up and level out but your car still seems to accelerate, your clutch is slipping. it may only slip 200-300 rpms, but in other cases it can be more dramatic. (this is just the way i have done it, there are other methods)

I am on the stock flywheel and clutch. The clutch isn't slipping at all. When engaged the clutch stays engaged. I have noticed that the shift from 1st to 2nd isn't as smooth as any of the other gear transitions. I also get like a clicking type noise when engaging the clutch in 1st gear (takeoff). I am pretty sure it isnt the rear axle click associate with our cars. Noise #1 happens almost every time I start my car and start going. Noise #2 happens every morning regardless if I let my g warm up from 1200 to 650 RPM. Also, Noise #2 slowly fades away after driving for about 5 minutes. Noise #5 happens almost every time I put the pedal to the floor... I am about to say F it and replace the flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bushing, clutch pivot ball.

I don't get none of the problems you get but I did notice that like 2 times when I was in 2nd gear, I heard a weird noise but once I put he clutch in and changed gears, it went away. It hasn't happened since.

But yeah my friend also told me that you really have to get used to the 1st to 2nd gear transition. I've learned that I have to shift slower and let the clutch out slower than the other gears to make it smooth. And as i shift up, I shift faster than the last gear every time. That's how I learned to get it to be smooth. So 5th to 6th, I do it QUICK. I've noticed that if I take longer than a second, the engine speed dips too low when the gear catches again and I won't get a smooth shift.

it will chatter until around 2000 rpms in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at low speeds. (25mph or less) when i drive im usually shifting around 2500-3000rpms anyways, so i rarely never notice it unless im pulling away from a stop sign in 1st gear, and it only last for a sec. idle chatter is not bad at all, and unless you own the car, i doubt that you would even notice it. ultimately i highly reccomend the ACT products. the clutch feel is much better than stock, and i also believe that it is easier to drive than the stock setup due to the lightweigt flywheel and the more linear clutch engagement, not the sudden last min engagement that we grow use to with the oem set up. (which sucks in my opinion)
