you bought the wrong car
you bought the wrong car
I have only been a member for a couple of weeks, and already I am tired of people ( dumb a**es ) complaining and wondering if their car is fast enough. If you were buying a car based on performance figures alone - you bought the wrong car. Sure, in the middle to late 90s the performance of the G would have been considered good - maybe even fast. However, the auto manufacturers are now back to a performance battle and the G is not on the top of the food chain. I bought my coupe for a combination of style, driveability and performance. If you want a car based strictly on performance in the same price range you could have chosen an EVO, STi, S2000, or any various used cars and modify the heck out of it. I could go buy a $10,000 car and have a $200/month payment, then take the other $200 - $400 a month (depending on what your payment is on your G ) and mod that car and in less than a year have a car that will beat a vette, viper, ford gt, etc.
For that matter, lets say you drop 50gs on a new vette. Then lets say you spend another 5-8gs on some mods. What do you have? You have a Viper eating machine for 20gs less money spent. Is it a Viper? No. And the guys ( and ladies? ) that buy a viper would still choose to buy the viper - it's a different car.
ALMOST DONE RANTING _ SORRY
So, the way I see it, you have four choices. 1. keep crying about your $35K car. 2. Accept the fact that you have a very cool and moderate performance car. 3. Trade it in on something else. 4. Start doing mods to your G.
If you're really that concerned, then do something about it! If you're not concerned enough to do anything about it, then stop it - you hurt my ears - so to speak.

Re: you bought the wrong car
I agree... some of you need to revert back to the
sportcompact crowd (or American muscle crowd) to rid
some of that extra energy you still have. And then get
a grand touring car like the G afterwards when you're
older and quiet down a little.

Re: you bought the wrong car
I've been wanting to say the same thing since I joined this forum. You know the performance numbers before you even leave the dealer. This is like the people who complain about the S2000 being small and sell them two months after they bought them... You couldn't tell that on the test drive?! Give me a break.
And I am also sick of reading the weekly thread that always reads "what will help me beat an M3?" Just go buy an M3 if you want to race M3's. All I can say is that our cars attract WAY more attention than an M3 can ever dream of. We drive very unique and attractive LUXURY TOURING CARS. It is what it is.

Re: you bought the wrong car
I think that the performance of our cars is just fine. Most cars will NOT compete with a G performancewise. When I say most cars, that includes ALL cars. Sure, one can rattle off X number of cars that can out perform our G, but I can rattle off many more that cannot. The truth is that most cars that you encounter on the street are not performance cars at all. So be happy that you have a car that blends very good performance with good luxury and quality. The G is not slow nor is it a bad handling car. Stop buying in to all the hype that it is otherwise.

I totally agree with KAHBOOM.....most cars out there aren't stock cars....Hell I was driving around with my 300hp 240sx destroying everything!
Plus its hard to blend in sports + luxury. It's hard to have the best of both worlds spending only on average a $35k car. I mean come on an M3 is like $50-$60k!!! Of course it will own!
I am tired too of seeing young kids with these cars! I was at the track and I saw a probably 17 year old kid driving a G35 and I was like how do you afford that? I mean Im 22 but I just graduated with a computer engineering and working full time now and I feel like I worked hard all my life to get this! Starting out with POS that I had to fix every weekend just to make it to school.

Re: you bought the wrong car
hey, don't blame the kids, blame the parents. If you were 16 and daddy said he'd buy you a 30K+ car, you'd take it too. Not all spoiled rich kids are bad. The fact is ( IMO ) that even if you make millions, you ought to make your kids earn major items. If you want to buy them a car, buy them a used toyota corolla. Anyway, no 16yr old should have a car that goes 0-60 faster than about 12 seconds. I felt different when I was 16, but wisdom comes with age. I had a 72 camaro i bought for $1100 at 16 and spent two years making it nice with every penny I earned. Bought my own gas. Paid my own insurance. Etc. I believe I am a better person because of it. It taught me responsibility. If I broke it, I had to pay to fix it. Then when I turned 18 my dad told me I could do whatever I wanted to it. I built the crap out of a 327, put a built TH350 tranny with a 3500 stall, and 4.56 posi rearend. Made the acceleration of a G feel like a dump truck. I got in a lot of trouble with that car. At 18 I still had no business having a fast car - especially that fast. Some kids are safer than others. I had and still have gasoline running through my veins, and for those kids, the parents are not being responsible when they go and buy them a performance car.
I seem to be on a soapbox today - I'll get down now before someone pushes me.

Re: you bought the wrong car
I original tune was based on RPM instead of boost, so I was leaving a lot of hp on the table...I retuned by boost and increased both rwhp and ftlbs...see my profile for what I've done...thanks...
