I have the same question. What's the goal? I am in the middle of vq build. Doing it all again ls3 would be my choice that's raw power.

Same here. I would never go for the outdated power plants like suggested, but each to there own.

There's also the issue of putting in an engine that's older than the one you are taking out. Some states have issues regarding this

Texas just does an obd check.
Im looking to get to 800hp on pump gas. the powerband isnt the greatest and I think its weak compared to what I can get out of this. plus im doing it for the cool factor since my car is a show car

Jack just do the LS swap. A cam, some headwork and a mild roots style blower will put you well over 800hp
