Retarded foglights...
Retarded foglights...
*pic of the H4 bulb socket and horrible black coating on the reflector*
Well. I was unhappy with the yellow color of the foglights compared with the nice white of the HID's on top of them.
I read how difficult it was to change the foglight bulbs, so I figured I better buy quite a few pairs so I could try them while I had my car ripped apart...
I bought quite a few pairs of H4 bulbs to try them out. Some PIAA Spark Blues, Spark Purples, Super Whites, Nokya high wattage 90/100 Xenon blues, Nokya HID-like white/purple, etc. I had about 8 pairs in total.
Let me say how disappointed I am with the foglight assembly on my '04 G35 Coupe.
No matter which light I tried, I still got a somewhat dull, yellowish light. I couldn't get anything near as nice of a white I can get out of my '04 Grand Prix with the same bulbs installed (looks great with the Nokya high wattage or the PIAA Super Whites). I just couldn't figure it out.
I stuck my camera in the wheel well and took a pic of the H4 socket (and inside of the reflector) and voila... a black/brown coating on the inside of the reflector.
Checked my Grand Prix... chrome reflector inside and out.
That explains why it's so hard to get good light color from the foglight assembly, the black inside of the reflector absorbes most of the color, so you're left with just a dull white/yellowish light (probably good for fog driving, but not good for looks).
Any thoughs on pulling the headlight lens off and ripping out the reflector? I'm sure that'd cure things in a hurry, but I don't know if it would utterly blind people when i'm driving... hmmm.

Re: Retarded foglights...
i changed mine h4 with the mtec route...mine doesn't come out "somewhat dull, yellowish light"...actually mine matches the headlights almost head-on...more white than blue..but a little blue anyway (i can't really tell the difference between them)...so...what are you saying?

Re: Retarded foglights...
This is a good question! I think the best answer is if you want those fog lights to match perfectly, you simply gotta get a Bi-Xenon HID kit for those fog lights (the fog lights in our cars double as high-beams).
