How good is our factory alarm? Go aftermarket?
With all this stuff I'm putting in my car, I've been kinda worried of theft sometimes. I feel like I can run into my car and the alarm won't go off. Any aftermarket alarms you guys have installed? If so, how much did you pay and how do you like it?
I had a dream last night (or it could be considered a nightmare) that my car got ransacked. Kinda made me paranoid.

well look at it this way, lets say you spend the $400 or whatever for an aftermarket alarm... if theives were to break in your car, and you heard it, by the time you got there, it would probably be too late...
if they want to take anything from your car, there's really nothing you can do to stop them... personally i think the factory alarm is fine but maybe just add a shock sensor... either way if they break into your car, expect to lose something, aftermarket alarm or not...

If they want to take it, they will. The factory alarm really isn't much more than a remote entry though. A nice aftermarket system is nice.

The factory "alarm" is really only good for preventing the car itself from being stolen due to the immobolizer (but if they have a flat bed truck...). If you're worried about the stuff in your car being stolen, then get either an aftermarket alarm or as someone suggested add a shock sensor (search this website, there's a DIY)

Which aftermarket alarms are recommended? Just so I can get an idea of how much that would be getting into.

My last car had an immobilizer.......it was flatbedded off in the middle of the day from in front of my house. All the neighbors had to say was: "they looked so clean-cut....even the uniforms"
