Scary Rear Bumpsteer

Ok here is the scenario, I had a pair of 305 30 19's on the rear of my 03 coupe on 19.5 wheels. It looks great, but now when I'm driving any little bumps on the the road shakes especially when I go over man hole covers. Thats not the wosre of it. I can deal with that. The Scary part was when I drove to San Diego yeaterday day morning from El Centro and as soon as I got to the grade I hit some some snow. My car was all over the road, I couldn't go over 35, traction control was going nuts. I felt like my car was drifting the whole way there. It got better when road didn't have so much ice, but even on the wet roads the car reacts like the back end wants to come around. Prior to the 305's I had 275 30 19's on it and never had this problem. I just wanted a more agressive staggered look. I'm thinking of changing to back the 275's. It was recently aligned so I don't think thats it. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had a problem like that but it was happening on dry pavement, found out it was a rear wheel bearing.

I would guess its more of a tread issue than a tire size issue.

im thinkn the same. What type of tires were you running, same as the 275? Is the entire tire touching the ground? This seems like a really wide tire for 19's on a G.

the real problem here is that with a wider setup of tires on your car you have alot more contact with the road....when I was running 325's on my old setup I actually would get stuck in the grooves of all the cars driving..meaning the width of the tire would catch the groove and cause me wiggle side to side the whole time even on dry payment. you are also with the tire spec way out of OEM tire spec so most likely your speedo is off as well.

With the more grip on the road when driving in SNOW/ICE your car wasnt made to do this with RIMS.....your car really isnt made to handle the road with a 305 either. Your outside of the normal groove area of any car therefore hitting the outside groove and inside groove depending on where your driving at the given time.

my 325 setup on a 20x10.5

Thanks Guys for all your input. Yea G35man you make alot a sense because my old tires didn't give me this problem. They were also a different tread design. My setup looks identical to your first picture. I'm gonna go back to the old tire size.

Is there much difference between the 275 30 19 and the 35 series? I want a little taller tire. Any suggestions on whats the widest I can go on 19.5 wheels? I really appreciate all your help its been very valuable. Thanks again.

Just want to say Thanks for everyones advice on this bumpsteer problem. I'm happy to say that I replace those 305's with a pair of 275 30 19's and problem solved no more rear bumpsteer. Car drive great again. Now its going to the body shop to have a new body kit installed. Thanks again.
