Missing intake parts

First off, hello everyone! I'm new to this community due to my recent purchase of a 2004 G35 coupe 5AT. It has 86k, premium package, aero package, and 18 inch stock infinity wheels. Ok, on to my question...

Upon purchase of this vehicle the previous owner had an aftermarket intake installed and he decided to take it off before selling me the car. He replaced the stock intake but it seems to be missing the hose on the left side that connects to the air duct. My question is: how harmful is this to my car? I have very little knowledge of cars in general but after reading a lot of threads on this site I came to the conclusion that it might just be sucking in more hot air from the engine. But, since the stock box has two sources of airflow, I wasn't sure how detrimental this would be. Any expert opinion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

The most hazard I could think of is sucking a piece of trash in through that hole but that is unlikely... If you really want you can pm me an offer and Ill sell you that part, although I am currently at school so it might be a few weeks before I could get it to you.

Thanks for your reply. I thought about the trash/debris problem too but I didn't think it would matter much as long as the filter is still on. Maybe I'm wrong..

I am very familiar with the area. I live about 10 minutes from there!

It's really not a big deal, and youre right, the filter will stop any debris from getting to the engine. Welcome to the forums.

Exactly what everyone said above. I would imagine obviously that your filter would get dirtier quicker.. but other than that I can't imagine anything too extreme messing it up, I'd still try and get the missing shroud that goes there, since it's an oem piece, it shouldn't be hard to do.

That piece is there just to deliver more cold air through the gap of the hood and bumper... The filter will stop anything from getting in.

Installing the pop charger will cause more issues than having the intake duct missing....

Since I'm about to install the stillen z tube and jwt pop charger, do I really need the missing air duct part? I know the heat shield has a place where the air duct connects to it but I didn't know how necessary it was. Let me know what you think!
