Coupe for tall drivers ?
Hello. Newbee here that needs some help please....I love the G35's esp., the Coupe but I see one potential problem. I'm 6'2" and when I test drove the Coupe my head was about 1/4 inch from the roof and my hair actually touches the roof (leg room was fine). I am now considering the Sedan because of the fact it may have more head room. Is this true? Any ideas, suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Hey atl_g,
This is a touchy subject for me too, (literally) being 6'3". It seems all the cars I like ship standard with a moonroof, and this seriously limits your headroom. Going over bumps and hitting your head on the roof gets old real fast.
Did you have the seat bottom lowered all the way with buttons on the seat at your right thigh? Only reason I ask this is because the G is one of the few coupes I can fit properly in, so I'm figuring you should be able to find something?!? I have to have the seat bottom lowered all the way with a very slight recline in the seatback. (not ghetto style - I like to reach the wheel properly)
Cheers,
Runner

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
im also 6'3" and dont seem to have a problem, it might have been the seat was jacked up but i like to also recline my seat a bit and everything seems fine. only downfall is that the seat needs to go all the way back for my leg room so that means nobody is sitting behind me.

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
I'm only 5'10" and one of the reasons I didn't get the coupe was because of the lack of headroom. My hair brushes on the roof and if I tilt my head to my left, my head bumps into the door frame.
I have a bad back (degenerated lumbar disc) so I have to sit properly. That means tailbone all the way back against the seat (no slouching), and palms on the top of the steering wheel with my arms extended (no hunching forward with the shoulders either).

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
I'm under 5"11" but have a long body and short legs;^)(not as bad as it sounds!). I have to have the seat right on the floor and usually can't have a sun roof. I can get the seat in just the right spot but it takes some fiddling.
I've seen a thread (it may be on another G35 forum) with pictures of a do it yourself seat mod that requires only the repositioning of a stopper nut under the drivers seat. This is said to gain over 1" of headroom. I'm a little tired of looking out of the top of the windsheild and may give it a try. Guess I'll ask the dealer first - not that they'd know;^)
Regards
Gary

i'm 6'3 and there's no problems. i have the seat all the way at the bottom and pretty far back. the sunroof is not a problem for me and neither is the door frame.. i love sitting in my coupe, it's so comfortable the way it holds you in around turns

Did you find that reference to repositioning the seat?

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
I was one of those that posted some details on how to do the simple modification. Its hard to say how much more room I got but Its probably between 1/2" to maybe 1". I does depend on how you have your back rested on the seat. I find I like a more vertical seat back and it allowed me to move it up more and I now don't bump my head at all. I haven't done an actual measurement but being long in the torso myself at 6' it made a huge improvement for me to my biggest complaint on the vehicle.

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
I found that modification post, but I checked that part of my seat and it seems that it is already all the way forward? The picture I say, it looked to be threaded allthe way back, mine is the opposite of that, so I think mine is as low as it will go?
I only hit my head once in a blue moon, a really big bump or something, but I will definately not be tracking my car, there is no way I can get a helmet on and sit in the car =(

it cures the car!
Yep the stopper adjust trick REALLY WORKS! I am 6'4" and was getting prett fed up with the car. Now it's a keeper.
Trust me, the car felt completely different and I gained just the right amount of headroom under the sunroof. No longer have the SUV seating position feeling - now it's low and sporty.

Re: Coupe for tall drivers ?
Just back from test driving my car after having made the $0 Fix to adjust for more headroom. I can report:
1. the adjustment is very easy to do by following the instuctions given in this thread.
2. lowering the seat in this way gave me 1/2" to 3/4" more headroom.
