100K+ mile oil change

I'm buying a G35 from someone that has 108k miles and the oil has been changed regularly with sometimes a synthetic blend and sometimes fully synthetic. I was wondering if I should go with synthetic oil in the future or is a blend or even regular oil fine?

Ask if they got the 90K mile service done to it from infiniti. The previous owner of my car had that done and it ran him ~3200$ so I'm glad I got it after that was done. They replaced all sorts of belts and other crap and valve covers.

A few people told me the 90K service was expensive as hell, so I had 2 options:
1) buy a car with 50-70K miles and pay for that service later on
2) buy one with 90K miles or more for $2K-$3K less than a newer one and have the peace of mind.

He said he did the 90k service. $2k-$3k sounds like a lot. from other people I've asked they said its about $700 only if you don't go to a dealer.

But back to my original question. Synthetic oil? blend? regular?

Yeah, looking at the pages for the service looks like they threw in a lot of unnecessary stuff as well, + they put new rotors and pads all around as well. Labor was ~1400$ so that's the bulk of the cost.

I would like to know about the oil as well. I am about to do my first oil change on it in a few days.

Using the "search" helps alot you know lolol.

Anyways... read.

https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...is-info-5.html

Hardly any oils are fully synthetic and they're usually harder to get. It's not really about synthetic, blend or regular.. it's more about the brand and what works best for our engines.

I use german Castrol 0W30. If that isn't in stock then I'll use Castrol 5W30 Syntec or Edge

Thanks for the info. I did use the search but I couldn't find anything for over 100k miles specifically.

No problem. It doesn't really matter too much if you're over 100k miles. Just as long as you pick the right oil that goes better or best with our engines and make sure you keep up with the oil change intervals

But oh yeah.. btw.. don't listen to people when they say go with Mobil 1. It sucks~!

I just thought that since the previous owner didn't always use synthetic, it wouldn't make a difference if I started using it now

My father has over 250,000 miles on his VQ (95 Maxima) and always uses Mobil1. That's with no internal engine work. I've read the reports that show that Mobil1 might not be the best, but it is hard to beat real world data.

Don't we love seeing how Infiniti owners get screwed by the dealership? Wonder if they're still charging for antenna service....
Buying a vehicle with high mileage and knowing how it's been serviced and with what is great information to have. Just use Mobil 1 and their filters, should be good for another 100K.

I used Mobil1 full synthetic for at least several years now. Mine's an '03 with 61K miles.

Real world data is data that comes from UOA (used oil analysis) It's not what you hear or anything else. If you go on some forums and look up information on Mobile 1.. it shows the amount of wear and tear that our engines go through while using that oil as compared to a different oil.

Mobil 1 USED to be a good oil.. like several years ago, but now it's not full synthetic and the quality has decreased drastically. I used to use mobil 1 and my dad used to use Mobil 1, but after sending in UOAs from that cars that we drive, we stopped using it.

Mobil 1 isn't full synthetic anymore.. Read this and you'll change your mind on Mobil 1 completely.

I have been led to believe that Amsoil is great. I bought some, but haven't had it changed yet.

For our engines. It's supposed to be one of the best, but it's pricey.. only way to order it for alot of people is onlinee. If it were cheaper i'd go with it.
