Angry Might Have to Slap a FOOL

So today, my dad took my car in to get a clearance light bulb replaced. So I go and pick up the G, both clearance lights work. So I drive back home, then to class, then back home. Right when I get home, the freshly made key (had a new key cut and programmed) fitted weird when putting it in the ignition. I didn't think much of it. Until I turned on the car and the gauges didn't light up until I got the car in the garage and turned the car off, and turned the gauges back on. I'll look more into that tomorrow. But guess what, NOW MY OTHER CLEARANCE LIGHT IS OUT. WTF!?! So now I have to take the G back, get that done, getting headlights cleaned, and have to get the side airbags replaced for recall. I seriously want to slap someone. The key fits good on one side, you flip it over, it feels like its hitting rubber when I put it in. I now want to order bulbs and not just take the ones there (stealership) is putting in. Common sense would tell them to put 2 news bulbs in, instead of one on one side.

And the lady told me it cost $100 to "restore" the headlights.

-End of my story of my day. O, and I had to deliever a speech to add on to my fantastic day.

Go to autozone and buy a headlight restore kit for $8.99. I did this last weekend and my headlights are brand new again.

But I would end up messing something up. Don't you have to open the headlights?

No its an exterior polish compound.
You dont want to polish the insides.

Also, you should replace lights in pairs. Generally if one goes out, the other is on it's way out as well.
Im not sure what you are paying to have the bulb replaced, but its a few bucks for the bulb and minimal time to swap it. If you are paying more than $20 im sorry.

+1 for replacing both, That way they match, and then u have that old spare. Also as he said it not much more work and often buying bulbs together is cheaper than buying it separately

Also if you plan on installing the bulb yourself (isnt hard) be sure not to touch the bulb with your fingers, the oil from your fingers will reduce the life and or blow the bulb.

Yes, Do NOT try to clean the insides! All of your fading/ugliness is on the outside! Trust me! For 9 bucks, you can't go wrong.

Yea, I thought the dealer had enough sense to replace both. I asked them about it on the phone. I'm pretty sure they didn't replace both. One of my friends said they could have hit a sensor. But idk. I'll definitely go get some headlight cleaner this weekend. I'll take a chance with 8.99 before a 100 dollars lol. 130 to replace a bulb in the first place is just crazy. They weren't even busy. Just a bunch of old ladies looking at Gs and Ms. Did see to many cars in the service area.

I also need something to remove the G35 left over from my debadge. It's really faint, I may have Goo Gone somewhere here. Looks like this weekends cleaning will take a while.

OP..don't get frustrated. just relax, think things out and act properly. with my car i've done too many things in a rush or not properly thought out and i ended up regretting it. fully research a topic, how to do things, read everything there is on the topic and then act.

not being holier-than-thou, just my 2 cents.

If you paid the dealership to clean your headlight they would only do the outside as well, there should be no need to clean the inside of the headlight.

Replacing the bulbs can be a slight pain if you don't have the tools, or space needed, but it's well worth it to do yourself. Just think of all the money you will save... I'm sure you will be replacing more lights in the future, or modding the car. Might as well get your hands dirty and take some pride in doing it yourself!

Try a SEARCH for DIY bulb replacement, way better idea than paying to have the stealership do it at their prices. If you have shadows on your trunklid and it's not from the adhesive GooGone isn't what you need to use! Buy some ScratchX and buff the whole area then throw on some quality wax. Headlight restoration, 3M is the best kit on the market!
