No idea where the oil is going.

you first said one quart in 500 miles (that is not normal) as an aside with synthetic oil it does not emit BLUE smoke only dino oil does that.

OP:

Do you run synthetic or dino oil?

Like the guy above me said, there's a very good possibility if you're running synthetic that it is burning oil, you just aren't seeing it.

If that's the case, then there are several issues you could be faced with.

Most common cause of oil burning in the VQ is failure of the catalytic converters. This in turn will either burn out piston rings, or cause the converter material to break up and get sucked into the engine and score the cylinder walls.

I have the same problem on my 2003 g35 coupe (120k miles). It burns oil like crazy and the dip stick sucks. I am installing a Prosport EVO oil pressure gauge today, so I can monitor the oil now. It's good to know other people are having the same issue and i learned some new things from this post.

FYI... I used to use mobile 1 synthetic when I first got the car, but it never sounded good running. I switched to AMSOIL and Royal Purple (around 22k) and never looked back.

How would an oil pressure gauge monitor oil usage?

OP, this is an option too. All you have to do is rebuild the short block. Costly, but a guaranteed fix.

Anyone know the liability of selling a OC car? (private sale) disclosed or otherwise?

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add my 2 cents for anyone doing searches. I have an 03 with 112k and I noticed oil consumption at about 1/2 quart per 1500 miles. I started using Pennzoil High Mileage oil and the consumption is down to about 1 quart every 5k. I believe it must be the detergent in the oil cleaning out the crud. The left exaust tip is black, but I never notice any smoke.

Me too!

Yeah I'm running into the same problem on my 2003 Infiniti Coupe 6 speed Manual with 110k miles. Can someone tell me how I can get this fixed? I mean I'm willing to put in up to $3k to get this fixed if I can see 200k miles out of this baby. Checking the oil has been so annoying...have to put in a quart every 240 miles!!

Either have a shop replace the piston rings in your current engine or find a low mileage longblock and swap motors. Both will be costly.

I have this problem heavily as well and burn about 1 qt every 1000 miles. I know alot of people here dislike jiffy lube but I go there for oil changes only because they offer free top offs. So when ever I'm low I just head up there in between changes. I get like 2 - 4 quarts added between changes combined with the 5 they put in at a change and when you add that up its actually CHEAPER to go there and do it than buy the oil myself.

Piston ring is not the problem but one of the cylinder's is oval thus the burning of oil.

Thats the first time I've heard that, seems odd to fcvk up just one cylinder.
