He's not damaging anything..

Not rev matching and shifting like a moron is going to do more damage to the trans mainly syncros. Shifting without using the clutch requires perfect rev matching matching the ratio between engine speed (RPM) and wheel speed (MPH) when both are at the same rate it'll "suck" the gear in without effort you only need to put it up against the gate.

Unfortunately for the OP he used his honda buddies as an example but the concept is known and familiar. Learning it might cause you grind the gears a few time but if you actually understand that each gear is a ratio between engine speed to wheel speed it's easy to do.

As for shifting WOT without a clutch.. Yeah I've done it on the G wont lie lol or mostly not fully engaging the clutch..

There are plenty of drivers who drive with the hand on the shift **** which is far more idiotic then the OP's question on how its technically done and how to go about learning to do so.

But if you don't understand this concept quit bashing.

It'll work as long as you do it WOT.

Go try it and let us know how it works.

man....you guys are giving a guy a hard time when you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

it's clutchless shifting. it takes finesse and a pretty good knowledge of YOUR car. as a couple KNOWLEDGEABLE users have stated...it's a non damaging technique that would actually save your clutch....IF you know what you are doing. BUT if you aren't driving properly with a clutch...then i doubt you'd be able to perfect this technique.

basically when the RPMs of the engine and tranny match, you drop into gear. no grinding. no strain on the tranny. or clutch, cause it's not used. as we all know...that's the purpose of the clutch, to assist when the tranny and engine are at different speeds.

so by NOT USING the clutch, you are obviously saving it. but...you have to know your car and you have to drive like a "normal" person. this wont work when your drag racing from stoplight to stoplight. so all your little "do it at WOT..." comments are clearly a result of you not knowin how to do it.

you can do it in any manual. i did it in a 78 ford dumptruck. it hurts nothing and saves clutch wear (especially if you aren't driving a manual properly).

so quit cockin off and get off the boards and go learn how to drive a manual.

Barely anyone in this thread is saying that it is going to destroy anything if done properly, but there is an extremely low chance that the OP will be doing everything perfectly all the time and thus will cause damage trying.

So get off your wannabe high horse nub and learn how to contribute without looking like a tool

i'm not a nub. and i may be a noob to these forums, but that doesn't mean i don't know what i'm talkin about. and most of the people on this thread were bashing.

and there's an "extremely low chance" he will be doing it wrong all the time. it's just a technique that takes a little while to learn. like maybe a week. if that.

bottom line, the guy asked if it was possible and what rpm to do it at. i am sorry i didn't go into a 5 page DIY on how to do it, but i just wanted to let him know it's possible and not to listen to all the naysayers.

and name calling is the way to "contribute without looking like a tool?" ok...

Many people drive on one clutch for the car's entire life. Go and tell them that clutch-less shifting is a better method.

And to IIIHawKIII, you're telling me I don't know how to drive a manual because I use a clutch? How about you quit cockin off and get off the boards so no one has to read your bull****.

Whoa whoa whoa. Calm down. I'm not trying to **** anyone off. And I never said anyone didn't know how to drive a manual.

Its just frustrating to me that everyone makes belittling comments about the OP treating him like he is lower than them because he asks a question that most don't understand. That's why these boards exist...to ask questions and share info.

And like I said, you can't do it under power, so race drivers would never do it. I only do it if I'm out cruising around. Or going thru higher gears.

I apologize if I came off as rash, just bothers me when people try and make fun of people for just asking a question. Non conducive to a learning environment.

^Pretty much told everyone who doesn't "clutch-less" shift that they don't know how to drive a manual.

I clutchless-shifted every car i owned, including my G, when the clutch lines go or when i am just bored. never damaged any transmission. its a good skill to know. i've saved a few friends from having to pay for tow trucks

that's not true. if you mouth off and make fun of someone for asking if it is possible and how to do it, when you don't know how to do it yourself...then you need to go learn how to do it first, then tell someone it's pointless or express whatever opinion you have.

and even if i DID mean it how you took it, it would still be true. you don't FULLY know how to drive a manual if you don't know that you CAN clutchless shift and how to do it...not that you HAVE TO.

but again, i'm not trying to make anyone mad. just tryin to sound off on the OPs original post.....which....he hasn't even responded to any of the comments so we may be debating a moot point.

no hard feelings.
