Shifting without using the clutch
hello everyone im somewat new to this forum. so im not sure if this has been posted up before. but has anyone done shifting without using their clutch. ive had a few friends do it on their hondas. does anyone know the right rpm to shift at without grinding. thanks

first why do you want to do that? It is only ever helpful if your clutch has gone out (because you lost something hydraulic, slave cylinder, hose, etc). You will not see any real time loss/performance gain when racing. Its not worth destroying the transmission to lose a tenth of a second.
Second when you do actually have a need to do that, you are supposed to be smart about it and before actually dropping it into the next gear rev match so that the flywheel and transmission input shaft are moving at the same speed as the next gear set so they dont grind hard. So the right rpm is entirely based on how fast you are going and what the next gear ratio is. There isn't a set speed and this takes additional time.
If your honda friends are doing it to save time, they are idiots. Bottom line, if its your car and you care about it at all, use your clutch if its working.

sure you will save the clutch a couple of uses but is it worth it when you destroy your transmission in the process? Is it worth adding a week to the life of your clutch when you take years off the transmissions life? And sure any car can do it, but its not worth doing unless its a race car in a real race and you rebuild your transmission weekly.

I concur.. I went 6+ years 150k miles in a WRX with turbo/intercooler/ECU/exhaust upgrade without having to replace the clutch once.. At the end of the car's life, I still didnt experience any sort of slippage or indication that the clutch was coming to its demise.

A little bit of research would have saved you from making this post and the ensuing replies.
Gary nailed it on the head. So instead of putting the strain and wear on a part that designed for it (clutch), you would rather transfer that to the transmission gears and syncros? I would rather replace a clutch than a transmission.
Ill just sit back

I'm not going to lie, for experiment sake i've tried the clutchless shifting.. its not worth your time and effort... when you upshift, you take it out of gear, and then slide it in to the next gear as the RPM's fall. I've done this without grinding successfully, but i tell you it aint worth it one bit.. and pointless.

haha..
You can do it on any car.. I've never done it on the G actually I love it too much but I've done it plenty of times on my first car which was a POS ford escort zx2 lol...
you can pull the shifter "almost' into gear... right at the point where it feels like you're going to grind.. now when downshifting simply let off the gas and pull your shifter in neutral.. now move your shifter into your desire gear to downshift into and put it right at the gate.. give it a LITTLE bit of pressure and when you hit the right RPM:Speed ratio it'll just suck right in..
upshifting.. simply let off and bring the shifter to the next gear.. and when the rpm falls to the right RPM:Speed ratio it'll suck it right in..
I have no idea why you'd want to do this tho it is slower then shifting and dont shift out of the gear underload.. engaging and disengaging a clutch with proper rev-matching will save your syncros and minimize your clutch wear..
cool party trick to show your friends tho.. or if you ever break your leg and needa move your car..
EDIT: actually I lied.. I've WOT shifted without a clutch a few times on the G just to beat this.. okay nvm lol
