Im experiencing a high pitched noise coming from the engine bay. I turn the key to post just before turning the car over and i hear this god awfule high pitched noise. I turn the car over and it goes away. Any ideas?

 

you sure its not your drive belt. if it is then ..........-_-

 

A lot happens in your car when you are about to start it.
fuel pump kicks on
starter starts to charge
coils begin to load
02 sensors start warming
climate control turns on and the blower motor kicks on
... the list goes on...

be a little more specific. (how many miles on the car?) have you replaced your coils yet?

it cant be the drive belt because he hasnt turned the engine over yet.

 

Next time try to have someone stand outside of the car when you turn the key to the 2nd click/position! It sound like its the fuel pump loading! The noise should only last about 2-3 sec max!

 

the only slightly high pitch noise i ever hear is the fuel pump but that is a 1-2 second sound and its not ear piercingly loud...

 

my g has 110xxxk miles on it. I have had all maintence done on time and oil changed regularly. The 90k service changed all belts and pretty much everything else. 105k was spark plugs. i know its not the fuel pump as it stays on indefinately. I am more than happy to take some video of it and post on here if you guys want to get that specific. i have tried locating the noise myself but am unable to track it down. The furthest i was able to get was passenger side of the engine bay. but specifically where i couldnt find.

 

ABS PUMP is my last pick, that will turn on and make noise without the engine running
the easyist is have a buddy listen to it while you do it!
