New Member + Contemplating Buying a G35 Coupe

Sup guys,

I am interested in purchasing a G35 Coupe (03+) to finish out the next two years of college. I will be graduating with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering so if I can actually find a job I will be buying a new car anyway.

The G35 interested me because it looks fairly nice and possibly affordable. I don't plan to do any performance modifications. Probably just lower it / black out.

My last car was a vortech supercharged mustang gt. :/

Anyway, getting to the point. What should I be looking for in these cars? I am willing to spend at most $10,000-$12,000. I don't want a salvage title or modified car. I also don't want more than 90,000 miles on it.

Any advice?

Also, when are the major maintenance times for the car and what should be changed? Furthermore, is maintenance costly for this vehicle?

I will be searching to find more information, but I think this thread is appropriate. Cheers, guys.

If this forum is anything like my other one then there is going to be 85% trolls posting and a few people with insightful posts...

It looks fairly nice? Wrong! It looks bad a$$!! Lol anyway goodluck on your search. You should be able to find one in that price range and mileage no problem. There isn't a lot of trolls on here but there are a lot of people that will tell you to search. It's frustrating because sometimes you will search first but only find other threads where people are still saying to search lol. Anyway, check out an online manual for service intervals. These cars hold up pretty well. Goodluck!

Look out for oil consumption issues and tire feathering. Make sure you check compression on it before you buy and have a mechanic that is used to dealing with G35s check it over. Good luck.

If you buy manual then you will get brembo brakes for 2003-2004 year. Compression rod bushing tends to wear out fairly quick. Radio/ac controls end up crapping out and you need to replace with a new controller. The window motors need to be swapped out when they go bad. 2005-2006 6mt sedan has revup motor and i believe 2005-2007 coupe has revup motor with 6mt. The revup motor tends to burn more oil than other vq motors so constant monitoring and top off is neccessary. Make sure you listen to the motor in person and check it out for any noise. 2005+ has the better 6mt transmission. CD009 revision is the last revision of the transmission with beefed up syncro's. Make sure to get underneath and check what transmission it has and how the motor sounds.

Revup motor with bad valvetrain.

Edit: Hit me up with vin number and your email and i can hook you up with a autocheck before you waste time researching too much into a JUNK car

EDIT EDIT: 2003 + 2004 have an older dash. 2006 has newer projector headlights and tailights

^^ nicely said. 2005 coupes and sedan 6mt's have the revup motors. I have an 05 6mt and I've not had a problem with oil consumption. From what I have read, I am lucky! Knock on wood!

03-04 models seem to have all kinds of creaking sounds and window motors going out, amingst other problems. First of all, they're the first models so, same as with any other car, it took them several years to get it right. Also, cars with high mileage (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, GM, Ford etc.) seem to break down at abot 100K, it's not rocket science. Especially if they were not well maintained. M.S.R.P. on this cars (esp. 06 and 07's), was right under 40K. As much as it's not a luxury car, price alone will indicate that it's not a car that will be cheap to repair or maintain. Peeps around here buy cars with high mileage that are dirt cheap but have: worn out transmissions, tires, brakes, you get the picture? As with any other vehicle, you get what you pay for. I have an 06 6mt., and as much as you'll hear people around here throw out the oil consumption problem like it's an everyday thing, not true. I've had my car for over four years and, not a single problem. Try to get as low mileage and as new a car as you can afford and, it will be worth it. Buy high mileage and you will most certainly pay for your mistake in reapir costs. GL with your decision.

Congratulations on your purchase. I had a 2002 and a 2006 S2000 before moving into my G coupe. It is a fun and very exhilarating car to drive.

I have been looking at finding a slick deal on a 2003 or 2004 s2000 but right now that would be a toy. Nice looking vehicle and great mileage as well. Enjoy the ride and feel free to post more pics of mods that you plan to do. Keep up on maintenance and fluid on the vehicle and you should be good for a long time well after you graduate.

Edit: If you do not mind telling me what you paid for it so I can get an idea..I am in TX so it won't apply apples for apples but it helps.
