BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
I noticed that if I'm cruising, at slower than say 60mph... the first time I apply the brakes the pedal goes down a little bit before the brakes begin to grab. They then grab progessively...If I let off the brakes though, and reapply right away, the brakes grab immidiately and there's less pedal movement required. Is this normal? Why does this happen?
Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
Sounds like you got air in your hydraulics.
The feel should be progressive each time.

I find that a lot of cars do that, it's because of the hydraulic fluid in the brakes.

Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
im confused.. i havent noticed it ever suddenly changing.
also the feel is definitely progressive and smooth each time.
its just that the first time brakes are applied the total pedal movement is slightly more than in consecutive times.
the brakes definitely work, and work really really well...no denying that. im just commenting on pedal movement the first time.
so you guys are saying this is NOT normal?
if this is not normal, does bleeding the brakes correct this?

Again, I suggest you take the car to the dealer and have them check it - you've got nothing to lose by doing that (well, maybe some time wasted at the dealer). On the other hand, if you don't take your car, and there is a serious problem, I think you'll lose a bit more than just time...

NO....that is NOT how they should feel.
Take it in and have them checked.

Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
All of you guys are wrong. All brakes work like this. Drive down the street and press your pedal and then let go and then press it again. You'll notice that the second time you press, it will be harder to press and you won't have to push the pedal as far in to get the same braking power as before. All cars work like this, every single car I have ever driven does this. It's the way the hydraulic fluid works. The first time you press it, the fluid pushes the pads down but when you release and push it again, the fluid is already there or something like that. I can't even explain it but it's totally normal....and no it's not brake fade or anything like that.

Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
I agree with MrElussive, every car I've owned (this is my 5th car, and I've been driving for over 20 years) brakes like that. Back in the olden days, people used to "pump" their brakes to get more braking power.. same principle. ..I've never experienced brake fade in my G... You don't know brake fade until you've driven on a downhill mountain road in a '67 VW Beetle with 4 drum brakes. You're literally standing on the brake pedal, but the car isn't stopping.
Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
I totally agree with MrElussive and JediRacer ...there is nothing wrong with your brakes it is how it suppose to be...think of this way when u are speeding or just cruising the brakes are not ready yet because the pump is not working at all and possibly for some cars it uses for something else steering power or power drawn to something else...that is why when u watch best motoring videos u see those race drivers randomly use their left foot to tap the brakes even in the straight ways, they do that just to get the brakes ready for conering or braking...it is a racing technique that many people uses in UK and japan less in the US. just my 2 cents
Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
I wasn't saying there is something wrong with the brakes. All I was saying was that if you're feeling something different (whatever it may be) it's worth having it looked at. I know that if I all of the sudden, started feeling something strange with my brakes (even if it somehow makes sense), I'd still take it to the dealer, just to be safe.

Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
thanks everyone for the responses. its nothing really different or sudden.. just something i noticed about the car. .. and i havent owned that many others (or driven and paid the kind of attention i do when i drive my G) so i didnt realize its normal. thanks again!
Re: BREMBO Owners! Is This How It Should Feel?
Like Duhh...we understand the principle of "pumping the brakes" and how the master cylinder works.....but
I really don't NOTICE it in my daily driving.
If he does, then it could be a problem....low fluid, leak...
Better safe than sorry.
