New Guy saying hi...

Hi all,

JJ here. I am in the market for a used coupe and thought I would say hello. I have been anxious to get one of these cars for quite a while, and actually have a chance to get a low mileage (35K) 05 MT6 coupe with nav for what seems to be a very good price of $13K.

However, after reading a ton of the fantastic stickies and data herein, I am a quite a bit concerned...It seems like there are large nubmers that are having the OC and resulting engine problems...and the serial number of the car I am looking at is in the range of those cars that may have the problem.

I will be examining the vehicle in great detail later today, and am looking for any suggestions as to clues to look for. I have seen the exterior and interior and all looks to be in excelent shape. But I have not yet been under the hood.

TIA for any exam tips from all you experienced owners here..

Take care,

JJ

Welcome, looks like you are going about this all correct.
It is possible that the engine may have already been replaced, look into that and if they say it has get paperwork stating that. Have a mechanic look the car over and express your concerns to them during the inspection.

Report back on what you find and pics if you buy the car.

Thanks for the response...

I know the current owner well and I will clarify all those issues for sure. I ran a quick freebie vin check and it showed there were 18 reports about the car. I don't always trust carfax or any of the on-line reporting firms, and I haven't yet spent their requested $30.00 more dollars for their 'full report' on those 18 entries.

18 might be a lot of very bad things, or it coud be just routine matters and simple fixes for minor things...

I'll let you all know what I decide about on this one...

I have also been considering buying a newer used 'program car' from one of the Orange County, CA dealers that get them from the Infinity West coast corporate offices. They have had some KILLER deals on VERY low mileage cars...and that just may be a better deal overall with this OC issue on the older G's.

Yeah carfax is hit and miss. Those 18 items could be oil changes.
If you are buying from a dealer they should provide a report. I would look for actual reciepts and documentation over carfax.

i can tell the person who had your car took very good car of it. it is extremely hard to find a g35 coupe with 35 thousand miles and it is even better that you recieved it for 13k. So you lucked out man.

Let faiz23 help you. Always use Autocheck over Carfax.
