Does anyone know by any chance if I could swap a G37 pumpkin into my 2004 G35 Automatic? What would have to be done in that case? The G37 has the 3.69 Final Drive Pumpkin which would be nice hehe. I have a friend with a G37 and was asking to see if he would be interested in swapping his final drive with mine. But want to check if it is even possible? what would have to be done in that case? hmm

Would 3.5FD be better for my G35 or 3.69FD?

If your friend's G37 is a manual, you can swap directly with no modification. If it is an automatic, you will have to swap the flanges and cut the pinion shaft (see below link for details). You will not have any problems going to a 3.5, I'm not sure if a 3.7 will have an adverse effect on your car's systems or not.

I say swap for the 3.7 and see how that works since it sounds like it would be free. If there are problems then just get a 3.5.

Ok. So now it seems that neither the g37 owner nor the 2005 350z want to swap their pumpkins... There is another possible person, which owns a supercharged 2003 or 2004 350z manual... I know that has the 3.5 gears... but would I loose the VLSD if we swapped pumpkins?, cuz supposedly my 2004 G35 5AT with titanium finish is suppose to have the VLSD... hmmm... Not even sure if his is the base 2004 350z or not. Would it be worth it? lol, its tough to find someone who wants to trade here hahaha.

Your best bet is to just buy another pumpkin, then sell the one you remove from your car. That way you get the Gearing and VLSD that you want.

Hmm... Where would I purchase a pumpkin from with VLSD and quicker gearing? I know they can be quite expensive new... I am looking for either 3.5 or the 3.69 with VLSD.

Check the classifieds on here, my350z.com, craigslist and local junk yards.
I picked up my 3.54 w/VLSD from here http://www.autogator.com/index.html
It came to just under $300 shipped.
I put my old 3.3 open diff on craigslist and sold it in 2 days to recover some of the money I spent on the 3.5.

Go for the 3.7 pumpkin off a 6MT G37. I DD with mine just fine. Got my 3.7 FD w/VLSD pumpkin for $400 shipped, had 18k miles on it.

You can also look on eBay and car-part.com. Search for 'carrier assembly'.

Thats what I would do if I could do this all over again. I forgot about ebay. I am happy with my 3.5, but if I were to do it over again ( knowing how the 3.5 feels) I would say 3.7 esp since you already have a VLSD. Going from an open 3.3 to VLSD 3.5 50% of the benifit is in the gearing and 50% is in gaining the VLSD for me.

Ok, I have a question now. I found a 2005 350z Differential (Pumpkin), manual transmission. So it should have the 3.52 FD. I am hesitant to purchase it because 1. I do not want to loose my VDC. Not sure if this pumpkin will make me loose the VDC? In my G35 I could turn on and off VDC. Now I would also like to know if it has VLSD.

Here you guys can see a picture of the pumpkin I found and the guy was willing to sell it at $300. Not sure if that is a good price for it... 2005 350z manual pumpkin.

Now, I tried rotating the right hand side stub of the number 2 sides forward and the left stub and axel moved backwards and vise versa. Now if I rotate the front stub on front of the diff. or number 1, both side stubs turn backwards at the same time... hmmm... Does this have VLSD? or LSD? VDC?

Not sure if the numbers help identify it...

Thanks for the help btw guys =) Just trying to get things done right and need help getting there.

If you spin one of the output shafts (#2) forward and the other (#2) spins the opposite direction then the differential is open w/no VLSD.

So not even VDC? I would not be able to turn off and on the traction control? I loose that button feature?

No you shouldn't. If anything you might lose cruise control function, but doesnt seem very common.
My understanding is going with a 3.54 FD you are fine and cruise control wont be affected. Some people have reported issues with going w/3.69 gearing and others have swapped with no problem.
