ADVICE PLEASE: 06 G35 Coupe - 77K Miles
ADVICE PLEASE: 06 G35 Coupe - 77K Miles
I'm taking a good hard look at a 2006 G35 Coupe, Black with Black Leather Interior. 77,000 miles.
Had Infiniti run the VIN on the car, may have been in accident at 14,000 miles - had steering wheel column spiral cord replaced (told me they usually are replaced if airbag is deployed). Current owner is 2nd owner.
Seems to run fine and in good condition except for a few scratches on the paint, will have it detailed and buffed out.
Originally asked $16,000 until I told him what I had found about the car (all happened before he bought it at 14k miles). I am now thinking $11,000-$13,000 range. Going to have Infiniti run a diagnostic on the car before I purchase it.
Can you guys help me out and let me know if you have any experience with any issues with the G35 and the 2006 models in specific? I would really appreciate it.

So your thinking about 3-5k less because of an accident that you don't know the severity of? You should get it checked out by a mechanic to ensure everything is good. If it is than it doesn't seem like a bad deal. Trying to get that much off for an accident though seems at bit wishful, especially if it's been repaired and has no issues.

That's your best bet for some peace of mind. If everything checks out, than trying to get that much off the sale price is unrealistic IMO. If its been repaired back to OEM standards, than why ask for thousands off? If a car drove through your house, but you repaired it, would you entertain the idea of a buyer asking for 10k off because they know about it? Of course not because its been fixed. Now if you find some fault after the body shop takes a look, that's a different story.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Is the title to the car clear or is it a salvage title? That will make a huge difference in resale value. You could run an AutoCheck on it and see what comes up. Don't waste your time with Carfax, it's junk.
^^That too. Basically what we're saying is ensure you do all your research first. Once you have all the facts and are satisfied, do your negotiating. Good luck and hopefully it works out for you.
Service manager at Infiniti told me the car does NOT have a salvage title, although "frame damage" was noted at 14,000 miles.

"frame damage" at 14K. Seems like you're way better off with a different vehicle. If you can afford $16-17k for a car there should be tons of cars at that price available for you. Even a higher price would be worth it, of course minus any damage.
The interesting thing is the current owner, who bought it after the 14k mile mark and apparent "frame damage" was unaware of any of this. Again - all of this was listed when Infiniti ran the VIN on the car. I've test drove the car and inspected it - it is in pretty good shape. Like I previously mentioned, I am going to have Infiniti run their diagnostic on the car and have them take a look at the frame.. would you suggest this or do you think its not even worth a look?
Also - I'm in Southern California around the LA/OC area and have been looking for a used G35 Coupe that's Black with Black interior.. been really hard to find.
That's why I don't want to give up on this car if there's a chance its in good shape.

i bought my 05 coupe on march of 2010. it was in an accident with frame damage. it had 44k miles on it when i got it and i only paid 10.5k for it. i brought a frame shop mechanic with me to check if it was repaired professionaly. for over a yr now, i had no problems with it.
i got it from a private seller. yes it was a salvage title. i was looking to get one for no more then 10k with that title but it had many upgrades so i paid a little more but still much less then what he was asking. and my uncle (who works at the frame shop) measured everything out and showed me where the car was pulled from and said it was a very light hit... also i took it to alighnment shop before i purchased it and they told me the same thing.
I'm hoping that I might be in the same situation. For whatever reason, the car I'm looking at does NOT have a salvage title. As I mentioned earlier in the thread - it has a record of being purchased by an Infiniti dealership from auction and then returned with a note that said "Frame damage", no salvage title though. It also has records of the "steering wheel column spiral cord" which I was told may need to be replaced in the occurance of the airbag being deployed. I still think it's a good option to take a look at.
yeah it happens if it didnt go through the insurence, and the dealer bought it from the auction. it would still be a clean title, unless it went through insurence. but if infiniti checks it and everything measures out, i think its a good deal for around 13k. my buddy got one for 12000 a few months ago. its 06 and also salvage. also is it manual or auto???? cuz its hard to find a 6MT for a good price. so if it is, dont miss out. Ive been looking for half a yr before i got mine for that price. even the salvage title g35s on craigslist are 15k and more in my area
