Snap sound from rear end?
2005 G35 Coupe with about 58k miles.
For the past week or so in the mornings, or after the car has been sitting for more than a half hour or so, I have a pop/snap sound coming from the rear end. I will put it into reverse and then let off the brake and as soon as it starts rolling it makes the sound. It only does it in reverse and doesnt happen when Im shifting, just afterwards.
Sounds like its coming from the rear diff but could be coming from elsewhere in the rear end.
Are there any common issues with G35s or anyone else have a similar issue with any input for me? Or another thread I missed you can point me too?
Thanks

Sounds like the infamous "rear axle click"...very common problem.

I think that is just the rear brake pads not releasing properly. I have fixed the axle click and still hears that noise in the morning. Even by getting into the car and sitting down I still hear it. I'm only 160 lbs. Probably the interaction between the pads and rotor. The hand brake on the G are pretty loose. You have to pull it all the way up to get good engagement.

Muffler bearing.
And I always yank the handbrake all the way up. Sometimes I drive other people's cars and I'm surprised at how little they actually engage the handbrake.

I'd put a large sum on axle click. Known issue, easy fix.
Look around a little and you'll see it's common - you described it exactly as it's been described a thousand times before.
Mine did it when I slipped the car into reverse, engage/slight pause for tranny to engage/click.
Had it fixed on the 30K service under warranty. No problems.
