Another OC issue to add to the list as of this afternoon...

Brought back my 20k mile 2006 Coupe in for the 1k OC checkup test after its last oil change. The engine was making a funny ticking sounds while at idle weeks back. Anyway found out today the motors oil level was 17mm low so it qualifies for the a short block replacement unfortunatly (all under factory warranty). Parts are on order & should arrive later this week. Is the short block an all new design or something & does it resolve the OC issue?

^^ from what I've read on here it appears they have redesigned the short black with different piston rings that solves the problem...

...but then again I've also read of people getting their engine replaced more than once...

Congratulations!
The replacement block is totally new, this should end your OC issues forever. That doesn't mean you shouldn't check your oil once a week or when you get her back she'll be new so treat her accordingly. Have the dealership change oil a couple times then switch to synthetic....Good Luck!

Nissan is no longer doing long block replacement due to the Cost and there belief the only the piston rings were bad. At one point it was thought to be also valve guide seals. Now what I want to bring to your attention is the a noise at idle that you describe could be something to do with the heads and the noise might possibly still be there. I would make sure to pay attention to the noise you described and see if the short block cures your oil consumption and noise. If the noise is still there than i would look further into it and possibly need the rest of the long block to cure it.

Thanks for everyone's comments on here. I will monitor if the engine still continues to make the loud ticking sounds at idle after the short block swap. I will also break in the new SB with standard oil first 6k then switch to FS oil from the dealer. Was hoping this would not decrease the resale value on all the G's this is happening too also.

I think if anything the resale value has gone up! haha. When I was shopping for a G that was the one thing that sold me on the one I picked up. An OC test was done on the 04 (not apart of the TSB year group) and a long block was thrown in. Best of all, it was all documented by the dealership. I've changed my oil about 4 times thus far and monitor weekly... I don't burn a drop now. You're set!

Just to update this thread I am told it is a remanufactured SB by a few of the techs. I was under the assumption this was going to be a new SB. And it will be completed later this afternoon. That was fast (within 24 hours) for completion.

It's a new SB btw. Not remanufactured. There was a miscommunication gap there a lil bit ago. Sucks being I had 17400 on the clock a few months back when I had initially picked her up. Now 20600 on the clock w a new SB installed.
