when to replace clutch?

How do you tell if you need a new clutch?
When do I replace my clutch?
I have an 05 coupe with 63,xxx miles

Not unheard of to get 60k+ miles on the oem clutch. I have 66k and still going. Not gonna change it until I feel it slipping.

I've never replaced the clutch in any car I've ever owned! If it slips or you can't get it in gear, that would be a good time to buy an ACT clutch....

I've never replaced a clutch on any of my past cars so I'm totally clueless about clutches. So... is ACT a brand of clutch.

And if I replace my clutch, is the clutch the only part people usually replace or other parts as well. ie. some poeple might replace the rotor with the pads etc.

Yes, ACT is a brand of clutch and there's none better! Replacing the clutch you'll also need a new throw out bearing and you may be able to get your flywheel machined. If not buy the whole ACT clutch package, it will never need replacing again!

that helps a lot since i've never replaced my clutch before!
i'll consider the ACT clutch package.
how much do you estimate labor for clutch package service?

^ an independent shop will do it for about $400 (for labor). That includes changing the clutch and flywheel.

Also, if you're not forced...you can re-consider oem..it's good enough for our cars with bolt-ons and obviously feel like stock.. Great price found here.

ACT is a very good clutch. id go aftermarket though, there is good stuff out there. if you want to keep the stock feel stay with oem flywheel to avoid chatter. i actually get better feedback from my ACT in terms of feel. and idk if your concerned about driveability and a heavy clutch.... but dont be haha. They dont feel heavy and even in traffic its totally fine.

There are 3 different types of ACT cluthes and they have solid and sprung.
Can anyone explain the differences and which one would be best for street performance with the occasional drifting.

I have no mods to the engine also.

ACT makes really good clutches.. and one way to test if your clutch is bad is to go from 1st gear, to 2nd gear, and then to 5th and step on gas. If your RPM slowly goes up then your good, but if it seems like its revving then its time to change your clutch.

I had a clutch go bad on a previous car. It starts out subtle and then gets gradually worse, but basically when you hit the gas, the RPMS will increase at a faster-than-normal rate but your speed doesn't. Eventually, the clutch and flywheel "catch up" to each other and even out, but you can definitely tell that the clutch is slipping as you accelerate. Personally, I don't plan on replacing it until it starts slipping, which hopefully won't be for a while. If you're at 60k it could happen any time, or it could go strong for a while, you just don't know. My girlfriend's dad has an older Ford F-150 with well over 200k on it - still the original clutch.
