Engine Overheating!!

I had just pulled into my neighborhood and my dude was like "what's wrong with ur car" I was like what are you talking about, I look back and see smoke coming from the engine, I check the temp gauge and it was to the top.

Could these be reasons why?

-I have a long CAI where the filter is litterally 10" from the ground, its been raining hard all day while I was driving, is it possible water got into the intake and made it overheat?

-I have the stereo issue where the stereo does not work and the A/C is always on.

I checked and there were no leaks.

If water got into your car it could cause catastrophic engine failure. I doubt it is that, check your coolant level and your overflow tank. You could also be running low on oil, theres just too many things to take into account.

You didn't know your own car was overheating? As a driver you're supposed to monitor the instrument cluster for warning lights and messages at all times - perhaps the single most important feat you should always keep an eye on is engine temperature.

How much oil should be on the dipstick? How do I check the coolant and overflow?

Make sure you don't have air in the cooling system, bleed it and see (add more coolant as needed).

I just checked and the coolant tank is COMPLETLY empty. How do I fill and and what type of coolant should I use?

Also does the air conditioning use coolant?

Just buy the Prestone 50/50 coolant mix at any walmart.

Do the easy way first, just refill the coolant thru the plastic reservoir bottle. Fill up near MAX level. Drive around a bit, make sure both fans turn on when AC is on, recheck tank level. Keep adding near MAX level if coolant is being used up. And make sure you're not leaking coolant underneath.

lol@ faiz23. i was going to say the same thing

you have to be more responsible. you own a car now. this is just regular maintenance and its scary because you just got the car and already had a problem. in the future i hope you keep a better eye on your car. not hating but if you are like me you dont have money to waste repairing something when $20 could have avoided the whole situation.

You likely have a leak if it's totally empty. Get the cooling system checked out for torn/ripped hoses and repair as necessary before you refill. When you do refill make sure it's bled properly.

The AC uses a different "coolant," it will not need to be refilled for this kind of issue.

After this, you'll learn to keep a close eye on that guage. After my first car overheated, it worries me every time I'm driving long distances. Make sure you bleed the system after filling it with proper levels of coolant. There's probably a leak somewhere.. is there any sign of coolant leaking in your engine bay?

Driving your G is a little more involved than just watching gauges, once a week pop the hood and check all your fluid levels. If you had your service done on time (oil/filter) they should have checked your radiator fluid level along with tire pressure etc. I don't get it, aren't Dads smart enough now days to teach their children how to maintain their rides....just the basics?
