i just called Kragen to ask if the had a K&N filter for my G35, the guy told me no but they have the Fram filter. He said that Fram and K&N are the same thing and there is no difference between the two. is this true? should i buy it? thanks guys.

That doesn't sound right. I just put a Fram filter in my Mom's Pathfinder (VQ35DE) and it looked exactly like the crappy stock paper filter

But a K&N is a red looking oil based filter. And they are usually priced 2x or 3x over that of a stock Fram filter.

Fram filters are made by Allied Signal... K&N Filters are made by Champion Labs. It's pretty universal that Fram makes the crappiest filters in the industry. If you want a "regular" filter, use a Puralotor.

FWIW, I don't even bother with Kragen any more. Seems like they only stock junk these days. The one over by me, doesn't even carry many Meguiars products. And they only sell Pennzoil and Fram filters, which I don't need to discuss further

Do they have an AutoZone near you?

Order the K&N from a place like Grubbs Performance Parts online. Grubbs is selling the K&N for $35. That's the best price I've found. Grubbs Performance has good prices and fast service. I'm going with the K&N Drop-In and ZTube setup which seems to be a favored setup by a lot of G owners.

The K&N filters are re-usable for the life of your car (you clean them and re-oil them every 15,000 miles) using a K&N cleaning kit. But the filters are so cheap I'll probably just replace it every 15,000 miles with a new one since cleaning & re-oiling them is a little bit of a pain. The new ones are pre-oiled so you don't run the chance of over-oiling the filter which can potentially screw up the MAF.

Wow, really? The Autozone by my work, has all sorts of stuff I don't know if they have one in your area, but there is a store here called G.I.Joe's which is a Sports & Auto store. They carry K&N stuff. I believe Baxter's Auto Parts does too.

If you have a local Pepboys, I would try there. They have a large K&N selection.

Fram is paper medium. K&N is cotton gauze with oil medium.

Fram Air Hog

Here is a link. Fram does make a performance air filter that is washable and re-usable like the K&N. It is not a regular paper air filter.

Here is a link.

I bet this is what that autoparts store was talking about. Not the crappy Fram paper air filers. The Air Hog costs 50 bucks. I would be surprised if it performed any different than the K&N, its the same design.
