Brake job question

I'm going through my first brake job on the G, I dropped it off at Firestone, they checked everything and said the rear passenger side caliper is locked (have been hearing clicking and scraping noises while driving) and needs to be replaced along with the rotor, which is damaged. Obviously both sides need to be replaced in order to keep wear n tear even. I just wanna make sure these guys aren't ripping my *** off, I asked the dude if there is any way to avoid having to replace the caliper, he said no. Calipers alone are gonna run me $433 + tax.

Is he right or am I getting shammed?

The rear pass caliper locking/siezing is very common on G/Nissans. Happened to my Gcoupe and my Altima (albeit on the driver side).

If you flush your brakes every two years you can avoid having this problem. The only thing that causes it is brake fluid contaminated w/too much water.

That seems way to high for a single caliper! Check with our MARKETPLACE under verdor brakes. They should be able to get you what you need at a fraction of what Fstone wants. Find a qualified independent brake/alignment shop in your neighborhood, everyone has as least one. There mechanics are generally more than qualified to do a brake job and they do suspension work too.

After storing my G last winter I had a stuck rear passenger caliper. Tried to grease it up but it was shot. Grabbed a new one from Autozone for $90. Either Napa or O'Reilly had it for around $65 but they had to order it and I didn't want to wait 2 days.
Slapped it on, bled the brakes and the thumping stopped and my gas milage went up ~1.5mpg!

It's not, it's for both rear calipers. Apparently when Firestone does brake work, they replace everything on that axle so they can give me a lifetime warranty on both calipers. I just told them to go ahead and do it so I can have that peace of mind and not worry about paying for new calipers if they **** up again since I have a tendency to abuse the hell out of my brakes.
