"Use The Search"

This is getting real annoying.

DO y'all realize that if everyone used the search this forum would be dead.

95% of the time if we used the search we wouldn't find what we needed exactly. For instance if I search for a type of oil I want... 95% of the threads that will come up will have barely anything to do with what I'm looking for.

Most of the threads in this thread are questions, or questions about problems we're having, and I'm sure over the years this thread has heard them all.. Sometimes people really can't find the answeres to they're problems.

One more thing. Instead of using google.. Some of us would like to actually have opinions from G owners like themselves, so we post on here and may also search on google..

it's a catch 22..i hate when people say that as well but sometimes its necessary, same people that say search are also the same ones complaining when a thread from 3 years ago gets bumped from searching

the search function on G35driver isn't too good, but you can usually find specific things buy searching "g35driver.com + " on google

Why do you think its called a "search"? You need to SEARCH for the answers. You think the first thread is going to be your exact answer every time? No. Look through a couple of threads and you'll get your answer.

There is no "right" answer to your oil question. Synthetic is best for your VQ engine and it's important to use a quality filter! fact! (K&N * WIX * Mobil 1) Now what oil you buy depends on how deep your pockets are and how much research you've done. Looking at my oil comparison chart AMSOIL 10W/30 is the best and what I use. But do you want to spend $10 a quart or would you be alright with Mobil 1 5W/30 at $4= a quart. Changed frequently both synthetics will be good for your VQ engine....my best answer!

Ive used search to solve about 80% of my questions since I joined the site, granted I usually don't use the forums search engine but actually the results that google displays for g35driver.com instead.

but on the topic of killing the forum or not, usually I get back my results from google I have to wade through several to a dozen useless threads that either eventually link to the actual thread of knowledge, or more often just wind up as a dead end. The idea behind getting people to not be lazy and actually seek information on their own is pure and simple to cut down on clutter, every day it gets harder and harder to find what's useful.

As far as constructive criticism, maybe a more thorough database of DYI, knowledge bases and such would cut down on that, but its a fan site run by enthusiasts and you get what you pay for, in this case much more.

Im with you on this

I personally hate when people slam a noob b/c they didnt use the search function. When I first came on here I had alot of questions and I searched alot before posting b/c I knew if I came off as a noob I would get flamed thats why I now try to post answers to most questions.. and add in use the search button for more research.. some answers are obvious with the search while some are not.. If you dont want to help stay the f^k off the thread.. we are a community to help each other out not be a$$holes to each other. Yes some people do post before looking but once you recommend the search button they mostly stop posting basic beat to death questions.

I think of this every time I read someone say "use the search."

I get it - the vast majority of topics have been discussed before, but many new posts are a perfect chance for an issue to be freshly discussed, with new viewpoints coming to light.

You really need to practice searches if you can't find "useful" answers 95% of the time. 99% of any questions I have ever had I can easily find at least partial if not complete answers to by searching, and I have been here for quite a while and have had a ton of questions. It may take practice to get used to searching and finding what you want but that isn't an excuse for not doing it.

The search function IS useful. Check my join date and post count..You just have to know how to use it.

1). Use few and key words.
2). Search "Title's only" instead of "Entire Posts".

But yes, just utilizing search can be boring and can kill the buzz of a fun forum.

Its a crap shoot

valid, but it would easier for everyone if the original threads covering said topics were to grow with the new insight and discussions
