nOOOO.....please no more Rice parts!
Isn't that the battle cry of a ricer as well??
Glad you buy into the common misconception of the sole existence of the two extremes....$1500 name brand exhausts and $30 coffee can mufflers on eBay. Marketing apparently works well on you. If you think you need to spend that much in order to get an exhaust that fits, looks, and sounds good....by all means go for it.

you can rock your crappy welded, crush bend, plain steel exhaust for $300 bucks all day long for all i care. or rock your knock off HKS. i prefer to buy from a company that stands behind their products which they developed, not copied from another design and i will gladly pay them for their hard work.
when you buy an expensive exhaust, or any performance part, you are paying for R&D for the best sound and performance. you think your local shop is gonna try 7 different configurations to figure out the best sound for your car and one that gives you the most performance? cause if so, i got some ocean front property for sale in AZ i think you'd love.
i think the battle cry of a ricer is "i can get performance parts for cheap. look at my awesome halo lights that were 69.99 on eBay" which is pretty much what you are saying about exhaust.

and don't get me wrong man, i'm with you. big money doesn't mean it's the best. and big money doesn't mean you're better than anyone either. i'm just saying that when you buy an exhaust from MD, you know you are getting a good product, built in the USA, from an honest guy.
if i can hear some decent exhausts in the next couple months, my plans on what i'm getting may change. i'm just going by the clips i've heard on youtube (most of which suck) and from recommendations here on driver.
as for my headlights, they are clearcorners.com retros. and about as far from rice as you can get.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Jhambor you're absolutely right about some brand names being way overpriced and overhyped. But be careful and don't lump all aftermarket companies into that category. An HKS sedan muffler costs almost $500 new these days, and does nothing more than look pretty and produce a decent sound. For a couple of hundred dollars more than that you could get a sedan exhaust from Motordyne that has had hundreds of hours of R&D put into fitment, sound, and power gains by a rocket scientist (yes, Tony's a retired RS)
Which would you choose given those choices? If you picked MD you're right.
i'm still stock exhaust. i live in the suck of indiana and have yet to meet more than 1 G with an aftermarket exhaust....but we just kinda got a club started in this "region" so i'm hoping maybe i can hear some stuff in person. and i'm going on a cruise with the ohio G club, so there should be some decent stuff i can hear there too. that's why all the Left Coast people have it so nice, they can go to meets and hear all kinds of stuff. my buddy has an invidia with berk HFCs and it sounds awesome, but i don't wanna steal his thunder.

Love this kind of threads. People defending aftermarket junk because they think that well made aftermarket mods are overpriced. Get over yourselves, go check out the BMW forums, then see how expensive aftermarket can really get.
BTW, just went to the dealership to get some work done and the tech drove my car and his comment was, "It's nice to see well made aftermarket mods on a car, they really come together". Bottom line our cars are aging now, a
2K3 can be had for ten grand or less, that brings all the ricers out. Not much we can do about it.

I can see paying extra for fitment and/or a specific sound you're going for, but I'm not sold on the actual performance gains of an exhaust. Not sure about the sedans...but I know on the coupes, gains are minimal. The biggest resrtiction in the exhaust system is the cats. After you open those up, you're looking at maybe 5-10hp more tops from the rest of the exhaust system, regardless of brand. So it seems it comes down to fitment and sound at the end of the day.
Obviously people can spend their money however they want. I'm going to spend mine in a way where I can get the most for it.
No offense dude, but an exhaust is one of the most basic parts there is. It's larger diameter tubing, and/or a more direct route combined with a free-er flowing muffler. To spend a butt-load of money on an exhaust system is ridiculous...you're paying for nothing more than the name. Theoretically, any competant muffler shop should be able to put together an aftermarket exhaust system that performs as good if not better than any manufactured system...and probably for about 1/4 the price. If you want to spend $1500 on an exhaust system that gains 5hp...by all means, go for it. Best is not always most expensive though.
