out of state purchase

I'm currently living in Arizona but I'll be moving to Texas in the next 3 months. Also, my driver's license is TX. Can I request the dealer in AZ to get me TX plates? I've also heard that you don't pay tax that way since the car is being taken to another state. I'm not trying to skip out on taxes, but it would be cool if my situation allows for it.

from what i know is that you cant have plates for a state that you are not licensed in...unless that car is in someone elses name that has a license for that state.

if you buy the car from out of state, you will have to pay sales tax when you register the vehicle in the state you are licensed in.

you can also request the dealer to get you the tx plates. if they do that, they will charge you the appropriate tax, cause they will get hit with it when they register the vehicle for you.

yeah what Jate said.

I bought from a jersey dealer, but I live in NY.

I paid them the higher (stupid ny) tax rate, and they directly contacted the ny dmv to get my plates.

Hey if TX doesn't charge tax, you're in luck.

I bought mine in AZ but since they knew that I was going to register it in NM they didn't charge me AZ tax. They put it on the books as a delivery to NM even though I picked it up in AZ. I got pretty much lucked out because the DMV here assumed that I paid the tax in AZ and didn’t charge me tax here. Saved me $1300

More than likely since you’re going to be in AZ for awhile they'll charge you AZ tax. Then when you register it in TX you won't have to pay tax on it since AZ tax rate is higher…..I think. You'll just have to pay for the plates and some fees. If you have it delivered to TX that’s a whole other story. FYI if you're planning on leasing the car TX charges property tax on leased vehicles and it's a pretty steep charge annually.

If you need a dealer in Phoenix/ Scottsdale I can recommend a dealership/ salesperson that will work with ya.

That's were I got mine. They did a great job and held my car for 3-4weeks for me. If you need a salesperson let me know. I get a $100 bird dog bonus.

As far as 1 in Phoenix I don't know. All I know is that there were 4 in AZ and only 1 here in NM with no selection at the time.
