Cool Transmission flush vs drain confused

I searched and read for hours and still confused. I even called a few Infiniti and Nissan dealers around the country and they gave different opinions. lol So I am still clueless. I have a 04 G35 Coupe w/ 73k miles on it. Have never changed the trans fluid. My gears tend to grind a little in 5th (nothing major) and it is not as smooth as I think it should be. Should I get a flush or drain?? I even heard different opinions from talking to the same Infiniti dealer but with different people. Please help.

Just to add:

One infiniti service guy said: We don't do flushes on a manual transmission, just drain. Asking price $90

Another infiniti dealer said: It is always better to do a flush. Asking price $240, I believe.

Nissan said they would do a drain for $130 and ANOTHER nissan dealer said they would do a FLUSH for $150.

Another dealer said it wouldn't cause any problems to do a flush.

etc, etc...

I changed my trans fluid at Infiniti for a whopping
$150.

Car has 12k miles and shifting got WORST. It was hard to shift when cold.

1 month later, it looks like it's back to normal. Still grinds here in there when shifting. Whereas before the changed, it was smooth.

Fluid was 4+ years old so I thought it should be changed. Not sure wtf they did to it to make it worse.

I work in parts for nissan and the manual transmissions do not get a flush. They are a drain + fill. The automotics you can drain + fill, but you will typically only get about 5-6 quarts out of it. If you do the flush they will hook up their nifty little machine and it will circulate a full 10 quarts through the transmission and they typically have a transmission fluid addictive that they put in.

hope this helps!

Flushing is bad if you have really old dirty fluid. Drain is where they change 4liters of fluid compare to the 11 it takes to change all of the fluid out. I flushed my not knowing that and now I slip from a stop to 1st sometimes.

Moto, I've had 4speeds, 5speeds and 6speeds and the term flush was never used! Flush is something you do to our 5ATs when they have very high mileage. Drain & Fill is what you do to a Manual Trans, forget the word flush....I can see why you're confused! I wouldn't go to the Stealership for this service, any auto mechanic can do this service for you. I recommend using RedLine synthetic MT fluid, your trans will thank you....

If you have a auto tranny i would be EXTREMELY careful with what fluid you put in there. You can get it from the dealership for around $10.00 a quart. We have replaced numerous transmissions due to people getting fluid changed at pep boys etc and then having failure, actually did one this week. Manual transmission fluid you will be fine with as long as it is the correct weight.

Thanks. My car is a manual. Will the Nissan fluid be good enough?
